New York Jets head coach Aaron Glenn has sparked trade speculation surrounding Breece Hall – and the running back appeared to respond with a cryptic social media post.

Speaking from the NFL’s owner’s meetings last week, Glenn hinted to reporters that he foresaw the team using a committee approach at running back. Hall, a 2022 second-round pick, has been the Jets’ unquestioned starter for most of his career.

‘I think, mentally, [Hall] is in a good place, but I would say that we have three running backs on this team that we’re going to utilize as much as possible,’ Glenn said. ‘They’re all big men, they can run, they’re violent, they’re physical.

‘So I think once we get a chance to get the players in and see exactly how they operate, I think every player is going to be happy with the way that we go about this offense, and I think he’s going to be one of them.’

However, ESPN’s Rich Cimini was skeptical that Hall, who is entering a contract year, would be content losing touches to backups Braelon Allen and Isaiah Davis.

The longtime Jets beat reporter acknowledged that Glenn’s comments ‘surely will fuel trade speculation,’ and even outlined a possible scenario that could see the Jets trade Hall away.

‘Perhaps the Jets would consider moving him if Boise State star Ashton Jeanty is available with the seventh pick in the April 24 draft,’ he wrote.

Cimini’s analysis spread on social media and apparently made their way to Hall, who responded with a bizarre picture on X.

The running back posted a super-imposed photo of a monkey with a cigarette in its mouth puzzlingly looking at a smartphone.

Fans had a range of reactions to the curious post.

‘Oh good the annual ‘jets player is frustrated by some bulls*** report so they post a cryptic picture’ my favorite time of year,’ one said.

‘So it begins… why can’t players just stop the tweeting their feelings,’ another added. ‘… Breece it’s a rumor who cares. It’s that time of the year and until you hear from your agent it means zero.

‘The day ur off my team ill be so happy,’ a third fan chimed in.

But a fourth said, ‘You a jet for life bro. I’d trade the whole roster away to keep #20 in the backfield.’

Hall has combined for 2,944 scrimmage yards (rushing and receiving combined) over the last two seasons, though his efficiency has actually gone down since his rookie season in 2022.

That year, he gained 5.8 yards per attempt, but that figure fell to 4.5 in 2023 and 4.2 last year.

If Hall remains in New York, he could also lose carries to dual-threat quarterback Justin Fields, who is expected to begin the year as starter after signing a two-year deal worth $30million guaranteed.

Fields has averaged 8.4 rushing attempts per game over his four-year career to date.
