Thunderstorms and cloudy skies are threatening to spoil New Year’s Eve celebrations following more than a week of wild weather on ‘s east coast.

Millions of revellers from around the world are set to descend on Sydney Harbour to watch the annual fireworks extravaganza that lights up the Harbour Bridge to welcome the new year.

But both Sydney and Melbourne will see a mostly cloudy day on Sunday, with the Harbour City expecting an early shower and light winds.

The wet weather is expected to hold off for the evening however, hopefully allowing visitors to make the most of the celebrations from various vantage points across the city.
