Nelly Furtado was slammed over a selfie video with Meghan Markle and Prince Harry at the recent Invictus Games.

The singer, 46, who performed at the games, posted a fun video with the former working Royals set to her hit, I’m Like A Bird.

In the clip, Furtado cozied up to a smiling Meghan before a serious Prince Harry nonchalantly walked in the background, leading to the pair to crack up with laughter and blow kisses.

Furtado wrote: ‘They’re beautiful, that’s for sure, @meghan @weareinvictusgames.’

However the cheery clip was quickly lambasted by fans, branding the interaction ‘cringe’, with many saying they would ‘unfollow’ Furtado for associating with Harry and Meghan.

One fan wrote: ‘Beyond cringe’ while a second typed of Meghan: ‘This is the same woman who wanted to live a ‘normal’ life.’

‘Nelly you don’t Wanna be hanging out with these two. You’re so much more classier than them. Seriously

‘Oh wow how disappointing

‘Big mistake having this 2 with you, though you had dignity and class.

‘Sorry Nellie must unfollow you. Careful with the company you keep.

‘Love everyone in this video! Invictus is such a great event, Canada did amazing with this opening night.’

The nine-day sporting event – created by Harry in 2014 for wounded, injured and sick servicemen and women – will see more than 500 competitors from 23 countries come together.

This years games will include winter sports for the first time ever.

The games have previously been held in London in 2014, in Orlando in 2016, Toronto in 2017, Sydney in 2018, The Hague in 2022 and Dusseldorf in 2023.

Prince Harry took to the stage to speak of his ‘sacred obligation’ to do everything he can to help military veterans like himself as he was given a hero’s welcome at the opening ceremony of the Invictus Games.

As his wife Meghan looked on adoringly from the stands, he said those who had gathered in Vancouver were there in a ‘spirit of unity’ while in parts of the world there was division and difficulty.

Harry told the crowd: ‘In this moment of difficulty and division in many parts of the world, we gather here in Vancouver in a spirit of unity. We represent 23 nations.

‘Speak many different languages and reflect the full breadth of the world’s religions and faiths.

‘Beyond any differences, here at the Invictus Games we are grounded in mutual respect, competing fiercely, but believing in one another. Supporting one another. And rooting for one another.

‘The Games were born more than a decade ago, from a promise I made to myself.

‘A promise to uphold my obligation—a sacred obligation after my own decade and privilege of military service —to do whatever I could to help my fellow brothers and sisters heal, and to champion everything we stand for.

‘Over the past decade I’ve lost count of the times we’ve heard you tell us that the Invictus Games saved you. Respectfully, I disagree. Invictus didn’t save you. You saved yourself.’

Meghan and Harry were recently dealt a challenging blow by the bombshell Vanity Fair article.

According to the magazine, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex ran into several snags that saw their lucrative deal with the streaming service, reportedly worth £18million, collapse in just three years.

The couple reportedly failed to yield consistent, successful content for the platform, with one former employee, claiming they were unlike other celebrity podcasters, who will ‘turn on the mic and talk’.

Instead, the source said, the couple ‘wanted a big theme that would explain the world, but they had no ideas’.

Some of Harry’s bizarre concepts ranged from reviewing hot chocolate every week to interviewing the likes of Putin and Donald Trump about being ‘sociopaths’.

Meanwhile, Meghan found it hard to commit to ideas before ‘backtracking’ and ‘watering them down’, meaning each episode had to be ‘completely reimagined late in production’, the article states.

Even when Meghan finally premiered her podcast Archetypes – aimed at empowering women by breaking down gender stereotypes – it failed to take off amid rumours that Taylor Swift, Beyoncé and Megan Thee Stallion all declined to appear on it.

The damning profile in the magazine – headlined ‘American Hustle’ – also stated that the Duchess of Sussex could be ‘really, really awful’ when things did not go her way.

Elsewhere, the profile detailed allegations from former employees of Meghan who reportedly felt mistreated during their time working with her.

The couple later dismissed the allegations as ‘distressing’, according to claims in The Times.

Launched in August 2022, Meghan’s podcast intended to explore the labels and stereotypes that hold women back.

Despite a star-studded guest list that included Serena Williams and Mariah Carey, the podcast’s initial buzz dwindled. In June 2023, Spotify and the Sussexes’ production company, Archewell Audio, announced they were parting ways.

Reports of behind-the-scenes disagreements surfaced, with some sources alleging that Spotify had higher expectations regarding the amount of content produced.

Then, in February last year, Meghan signed a new podcast deal with Lemonada Media, which appeared to suggest that new episodes were on the cards via Instagram, writing, ‘We are SO Back!’

‘With new episodes of Fail Better, Boneheads, Pop Culture Debate Club AND MORE coming out this week, which podcast are you excited to listen to this week?’

Nestled in the image of podcasts shared by the media group was Markle’s Archetype podcast, perhaps indicating that fans can expect new episodes later this year.

Fans flocked to the post’s comment section, expressing their desire for new episodes.
