Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi says new details emerging in Special Counsel Jack Smith’s investigation into the January 6 Capitol attack are coming mostly from those previously aligned with Donald Trump.

It comes amid the revelation of new details from interviews claiming Trump ‘wasn’t interested’ in doing anything to stop his supporters from rioting at the Capitol following his 2020 election loss to Joe Biden.

Much of the new details come from Smith’s questioning of Trump’s former deputy chief of staff, Dan Scavino, according to an ABC News report.

Pelosi highlighted this on Sunday, saying in an interview on ABC This Week that the damning testimony is ‘overwhelmingly coming from the Republicans.’

The California Democrat was Speaker of the House at the time of the riot and helped lead probes into Trump both during and following his departure from office.

Scavino was the one person with access to Trump’s Twitter account besides the then-president. And even he said he was surprised by the post claiming former Vice President Mike Pence ‘didn’t have the courage’ to block Congress from certifying the election results.

The Trump aide, who worked for the president since he was a teenager three decades ago, told Smith’s team that he told Trump that was ‘not what we need.’ But Trump replied with: ‘But it’s true.’

Former Trump aide Nick Luna also told investigators, according to sources, that when Trump was told his VP was rushed to a secure location, he said: ‘So what?’

Scavino wouldn’t speak with the House committee that proved the January 6 attack, but did talk with Smith’s team.

He told Smith’s investigators that as violence culminated at the Capitol three years ago, Trump ‘was just not interested’ in doing anything to stop it.

Scavino printed out messages that he proposed Trump post to Twitter since the president was reluctant to write his own statement to ‘discourage violence.’

But more than a half-hour after he was first pressed to take action, Trump finally let Scavino post a message to his Twitter account saying ‘stay peaceful.’

Sources tell ABC that ultimately, six of Trump’s closest aides pushed the then-president to be more forceful in pushing for an end to the violence at the Capitol. They saw his Twitter message as ‘weak.’

Trump is facing 91 federal charges for attempting to overturn the 2020 presidential election results and some states are making rulings that attempt to keep him off their 2024 ballots for ‘engaging in insurrection.’
