How far would you go for family?
One man has shared the uncomfortable situation he finds himself in after his sister asked him to be her sperm donor – then was furious when he said no.
The man, believed to be from the US, explained the situation in a Reddit post, explaining on the Am I The A**hole subthread that his sister is his only sibling, and she and her wife want to conceive using a sperm donor.
‘[My] sister has PCOS and her wife has no brothers, so they asked me to supply the sperm to implant in her wife,’ the man explained in the post.

‘They said it would all be above board with lawyers and everything and I’d have no obligations, it would just be like my niece/nephew,’ he continued.
Although legally the situation was fine, the Reddit poser admitted that morally, it made him feel ‘incredibly uncomfortable.’
‘Honestly it creeps me out that they would even ask,’ he wrote in the post.
‘I don’t know if I even want kids, but if I do, I’m not so sure a future wife would be cool with me having a biological child, and neither am I,’ he said.
He continued by saying he told them ‘no’ and explained that it makes him feel uncomfortable but added that his sister and her wife have asked him to reconsider several times.
‘The last time I straight up told her the answer is no and I find it very creepy,’ he continued. ‘Her wife then tried to call but I hung up and blocked her number.’
‘I haven’t blocked my sister but I’m not picking up her calls and her last text called me an a**hole among other things,’ he shared.
Commenters were divided over who was in the wrong – some saying if he finds it creepy it’s a fair reason not to donate his sperm, while others didn’t see the issue.

‘Whether it’s common or not, it’s creepy to the original poster, so yes it is creepy. Again, it’s subjective,’ one user wrote.
‘Just because it would mean the sister would get as close as she could to her own child, doesn’t mean OP cannot find the idea of them requesting him creepy or the very act of HIM donating HIS SPERM to someone creepy. It’s completely normal as a reaction from him,’ they wrote.
‘Dude isn’t f**king anyone, and incest isn’t an issue, and at least one person in the couple will have a biological link to the child. I can absolutely see why they asked,’ another pointed out.
Another agreed, saying it’s the fact they were being ‘pushy’ that puts them in the wrong.
‘But personally? I think OP is being weird for thinking it’s creepy and not seeing why they’d want that,’ the Reddit user added.
Some suggested the Reddit poster’s sister wanted him to donate so some of their side of the family’s DNA would be passed on.
‘I wonder if they are being so insistent because the sister would really like a child of her own, with her DNA, but can’t because of her PCOS, and the she figures the next best thing would be her brothers child,’ the suggested.
‘That way it is actually a mix of her family’s and her partners family. Its pretty much as close as same sex couples can get as “having a child together.”
‘Whether that’s the case or not, he is absolutely NOT obligated to donate. They are acting very pushy,’ another pointed out.
