A murder probe has been launched and a man arrested after a woman in her 30s was found dead in a quiet residential street.
Officers were first called to South Morgan Place in the Riverside area of Cardiff at 7.37am on August 21, following reports of a seriously injured woman.
While paramedics attended, the woman was sadly pronounced dead at the scene, with her next of kin informed.
A 37-year-old man, who is known to the victim, was arrested in connection shortly after on Seawall Road, South Wales Police confirmed.
He remains in police custody and the force have said they are not currently looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.
Now, a murder probe has been launched, with officers urgently appealing for any witnesses to the tragic incident to make contact with the force.
Likewise, they have urged any individuals with information or footage involving a grey Ford Fiesta to get in touch.
Anyone who was in or near South Morgan Place or Seawall Road, between 7.30am and 8.30am, have also been asked asked to check their private CCTV or dashcam footage.
While several local residents said that they had been entirely unaware of the incident, one woman who lives close to the scene told WalesOnline that she had ‘heard a scream’ at around 7.30am.
She said that prior to the police’s arrival she had simply believed the noise was children.
South Wales Police have said they are particularly interested to hear from anyone who was travelling between these areas, including Wellington Street, Clare Road, Penarth Road, and East Tyndall Street, during the time of the incident.
Pictures of the scene show parts of the quiet street have been cordoned off with police tape, with several vehicles parked up as officers conduct their initial investigations.
Detective Chief Inspector Matthew Davies said: ‘We have a dedicated team of investigators who have been carrying out extensive enquiries in the area, and I would like to thank everyone who has reached out with information so far.
‘We are appealing to anyone with CCTV, dashcam, or ring doorbell footage, or anyone else who may have seen something suspicious, to come forward.
‘Specifically, we’re looking for anything involving a grey Ford Fiesta in the mentioned areas.’
Confirming the arrest of a man in connection with the death, Detective Superintendent Mark O’Shea said: ‘We have arrested one man in his 30s on suspicion of murder and we are not looking for anyone else in connection.
‘Residents will notice an increased police presence in the area while we investigate. Anyone with information yet to speak to police is encouraged to get in touch.’
