Donald Trump received a massive reception as he arrived for the second day of the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee.

It came hours after police arrested a man in a ski mask carrying an AK-47 pistol just blocks from the venue.

The security scare happened as Trump announced will return to the campaign trail with a rally in Michigan just a week after he was shot while on stage in Pennsylvania.

The former president will hold his first event with newly-announced running mate J.D. Vance.

Trump rises to feet for barnstorming speech by mother of stabbed veteran

Madeline Brame got some of the biggest cheers on the second night of the convention.

Brame is the mother of Army Sergeant Hason Correa, 35, who was stabbed to death in New York six years ago.

She slammed Alvin Bragg, the New York DA who prosecuted Trump, which led to the biggest boo of the evening.

Brame went on to explain how she had been a Democrat but ‘my eyes have been opened.’

She was ‘sick and tired of being sick and tired’ and said Democrats had ‘neglected poor minority communities across America’ and ‘stabbed us in the back’.

Donald Trump pumped his fist in the air as supporters cheered his arrival at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee.

Trump entered the packed and noisy Fiserv Forum shortly after 8pm local time.

He still had a large white bandage on his right ear after being hit by a would-be assassin’s bullet on Saturday.

Trump took his seat alongside his new running mate JD Vance.

He is expected to listen to speeches by former rivals Ron DeSantis and Nikki Haley as he aims to unite the party.

Fox News interrupts Nikki Haley's speech by holding football toss in convention hall

By Nikki Schwab, Chief Campaign Correspondent in Milwaukee, Wisconsin

While Nikki Haley was quickly able to get the Republican National Committee crowd from booing her to cheering her – thanks to her quick endorsement of former President Donald Trump – she couldn’t keep the whole audience engaged.

A portion of the audience turned away from Trump’s former rival as she concluded her address to engage in a football toss.

Fox News host Sean Hannity was captured tossing footballs into the crowd, while the Fox camera later panned to Peter Hegseth clutching a ball at the anchor desk.

Haley, overall, was received warmly from the crowd and even received a standing ovation from Trump as she concluded her speech.

Trump delighted as DeSantis jokes about Biden's 'Weekend at Bernie’s' presidency

By Katelyn Caralle, Senior U.S. Political Reporter in Milwaukee, Wisconsin

Gov. Ron DeSantis slammed President Joe Biden, telling the convention crowd on Tuesday:

America cannot afford four more years of a Weekend at Bernie’s presidency.

Trump appeared to like the joke and was seen smiling and nodding.

The Florida governor set aside his previous rivalry, instead praising Trump in particular for his immigration policies.

Our country was respected when Donald Trump was our commander-in-chief. As a citizen, as a husband and as a father, I am alarmed that the current president of the United States lacks the capability to discharge the duties of his office.

Nikki Haley warns against 'a single day' of 'President Kamala Harris'

By Charlie Spiering, Senior Political Reporter in Milwaukee, Wisconsin

Former United Nations ambassador Nikki Haley warned that even a single day of Vice President Kamala Harris becoming president would be bad for the country.

She repeated her repeated warning during her Republican primary campaign that a vote for Joe Biden’s reelection would be a vote for Kamala Harris.

‘After seeing the debate everyone knows that it’s true,’ she said, referring to Biden’s disastrous debate performance in June.

Haley warned that Harris and Biden would be extremely bad for the security of the Southern border.

‘Kamala had one job, and that was to fix the border. Now imagine her in charge of the entire country,’ she said as RNC delegates booed with agreement.

Eric Trump: 'My 4-year-old daughter could have walked up that roof'

Eric Trump has slammed embattled Secret Service director Kimberly Cheatle over the near-assassination of his father.

Cheatle has claimed an agent was not stationed on the roof the gunman shot from because it was sloped and there was a ‘safety factor that would be considered’.

Eric Trump told Fox News:

My father almost lost his head because of that incompetence.

My 4-year-old daughter could have walked up that roof. It’s infuriating, it’s an act of God he survived.

Iranian plot to assassinate Donald Trump is 'deeply alarming' and open border could be to blame, say Republicans demanding Biden take action

Iran’s reported plot to assassinate Donald Trump is alarming but not surprising, Republicans say, adding that Biden needs to make clear an attempt would be an act of war.

The Secret Service ramped up security around Donald Trump after receiving intelligence of an Iranian assassination plot in the weeks before he was shot at the Pennsylvania rally, a bombshell report revealed Tuesday.

Despite the heightened security, 20-year-old gunman Thomas Mathew Crooks was still able to climb on a roof just 130 yards away from the former president and open fire with a clear line of sight.

The staggering would-be assassination plot by the hostile nation, first reported by CNN, raises more questions about the Secret Service and the massive security failure that led to the attempt on Trump’s life.

And the devious plot comes as no surprise, House Republicans told DailyMail.com, who are calling on President Joe Biden to step up and send a message to Iran.

Nikki Haley is BOOED at the Republican convention after former rival Trump walked in for the second day with a bandage on his ear

Fiserv Forum erupted in loud boos and jeers as former Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley took the stage.

But massive applause came just before as former President Donald Trump made yet another WWE-style walkout during night two of the Republican National Convention.

The jumbotron showed the former president fist pumping and smiling as he walked from the tunnels backstage to the convention lower bowl.

A brief video montage of Trump dancing to the Village People’s YMCA set the awaiting fans alight with excitement and joy.

Flashing red, white and blue lights and a roar of support greeted the former president as he emerged to his VIP box full of family, friends and his most loyal supporters.

Nikki Haley received some boos as she first came onstage Tuesday night at the Republican National Convention.

She said she was there at former President Donald Trump’s invitation and would deliver a ‘unity’ address.

‘It was a gracious invitation and I was happy to accept,’ Trump’s former rival said.

The skepticism quickly turned to cheers as she made her plans to vote for Trump official.

‘Donald Trump has my strong endorsement. Period,’ she said.

Trump – officially the GOP nominee – was seated in the convention hall during Haley’s speech.

His other chief former rival, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, is also slated to speak Tuesday night.

Donald Trump’s convention deployed a reality TV star to turn up the heat on prosecutors he accuses of running politically motivated investigations.

‘We need to hold rogue prosecutors to accountability,’ said Savannah Chrisley, whose parents got sentenced to 19 years in prison but had their sentences ultimately overturned.

Chrisley, who has appeared on ‘The Masked Singer’ and in Sharknado 4 tore into the ‘warrantless raids’ in Fulton County, Georgia, the same county where Trump and alleged coconspirators were indicted on charges related to his election overturn effort.

She called for exposing ‘the Biden family’s corruption. And guess what, I know just the man for that job.’

And she called for the release of Bannon, a former chief White House strategist who reported to prison for defying a subpoena. ‘Look at what they’ve done to Steve Bannon. I mean, the man should be home,’ she said, to cheers from the GOP crowd.

Senate candidate Sam Brown from Nevada took stage at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on Tuesday.

America, I served you as a soldier, and I want to serve you again – as a U.S. senator.

Brown, 40, was deployed to Afghanistan when in 2008 he was wounded by an improvised explosive device that burned 30 percent of his body and caused him to lose his left index finger.

He recounted at the Convention on Tuesday that as flames engullfed his body, he heard, ‘Sir, I’ve got you,’ and now is delivering that same message to Nevada and America.

I’m gonna close with those same words I heard on the battlefield that gave me hope: America, I’ve got you.

As the Republiucan Party tries to shift toward a message of ‘unity’ after the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump on Saturday, Lake continued to turn up the heat.

From the main stage at Fiserv Forum on Tuesday in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the Senate candidate for Arizona said:

Biden uses Trump shooting to call for a ban on assault weapons

President Joe Biden on Tuesday said the attempted assassination of Donald Trump was proof that assault weapons need to be outlawed in the United States.

‘It was used in the shooting of Donald Trump, just as assault weapons are used to kill so many others, including children. It’s time to outlaw them. I did it once and I will do it again,’ he said.

He also said Vice President Kamala Harris could be president and tore into his Republican rival for being a ‘liar.’

Biden said that it was time ‘lower the temperature’ and then, in his speech to the annual NAACP convention, slammed Trump’s record on black issues.

He also praised Harris, noting ‘she’s not only a great vice president, she could be president of the United States.’

A lot of emotions started coming back. I immediately started praying.

I heard the “pop, pop, pop”. It was eerily similar.

Exclusive: Superman actor Dean Cain says Donald Trump's 'iconic' fist pump after being shot shows 'courage of character' that will drive voters to him

Former Superman actor Dean Cain is predicting that Donald Trump’s ‘iconic’ response immediately after his attempted assassination will secure his reelection.

Trump narrowly escaped death on Saturday after Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20, fired multiple shots at the former president from just 130 yards away in a spectacular security failure that is being investigated.

The ex-president luckily turned his head at the vital moment and only ended up with a bloody ear instead of a bullet to his head. He was hustled off stage by his Secret Service detail, but not before giving his supporters a clenched fist salute.

Cain told DailyMail.com in an exclusive interview on the sidelines of the Republican National Convention that Trump’s fist pump in the air seconds after he was shot was an ‘amazing and historical’ moment.

Police shoot and kill armed suspect just outside the Republican convention in Milwaukee

Police officers shot and killed an armed suspect a mile away from the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee.

Police from Columbus, Ohio, were involved in an ‘officer involved shooting’ just blocks from the Convention main stage, Fraternal Order of Police President Brian Steel confirmed Tuesday.

Shots were fired by at least three officers patrolling on bicycles after the man turned to them with a knife, an official told the New York Times. The incident happened near a social services building in the early afternoon.

The officers were in the city to help with the beefed-up security for the event after the assassination attempt on Donald Trump on Saturday.

More than 100 cops swarmed the scene near North 14th and West Vliet Streets just outside of the security perimeter after the shots rang out.

Secret Service 'received intel on Iranian plot to assassinate Trump' and increased security around him weeks before he was shot at rally

Donald Trump’s Secret Service security was increased in the weeks ahead of the assassination attempt due to intelligence of an alleged plot by Iran to take out the former president.

A human source informed U.S. officials of the plot, according to a new report from CNN.

It does not appear at the current time that shooter Thomas Matthew Crooks is connected to the Iranian plot.

Crooks, 20, shot Trump in the ear at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania on Saturday before he was taken out by U.S. Secret Service.

The new report of enhanced security around the former president could raise even more questions after Republican outcry ensued on how Secret Service failed to detect the would-be assassin before he opened fire at the rally.

After the Secret Service agreed to brief members of the House Oversight Committee on Tuesday, the Department of Homeland Security took over communications with the Committee and has since refused to confirm a briefing time.

The Oversight Committee has a long record of bipartisan oversight of the Secret Service and the unprofessionalism we are witnessing from current DHS leadership is unacceptable.

While the Secret Service confirmed Director Cheatle is expected to appear for the Committee’s hearing on July 22, to head off any attempt by DHS to backtrack on her appearance, the Chairman will issue a subpoena for her to attend. Director Cheatle must answer to Congress and the American people about the historic failure that occurred on her watch.

Exclusive:Voters see a smart, strong senator in Trump's running mate JD Vance, according to exclusive Daily Mail poll, as Democrats paint him as a Donald clone

From Rob Crilly, Chief U.S. Political Correspondent in Milwaukee

For those that know about Sen. J.D. Vance, Donald Trump’s new running mate is ‘strong’ and ‘smart, according to a snap survey of voters for DailyMail.com.

But for many he is a new name.

‘Don’t’ and ‘know’ were the two most common terms in a wordcloud of results when 300 likely voters were asked to describe their view of the 39-year-old senator from Ohio.

Strip those out and the results trend towards the favorable: ‘Good’ and ‘leader’ edge out ‘idiot’ or ‘asshole.’

Democrats quickly went on the attack when Trump unveiled his choice on Monday, describing him as a clone of the former president who will loyally follow orders, and the results suggest that either side has the chance to define a man who is still largely unknown outside Ohio or the world of the Make America Great Again movement.

In blow to Biden, Teamsters may not endorse a presidential candidate

EPA/JIM LO SCALZO

The powerful Teamsters union is consider not backing any candidate at all in this year’s presidential race, Reuters reported, in what would be a massive blow to Joe Biden.

Biden has heavily courted the 1.3 million-member union. It backed him over Donald Trump in the 2020 election.

The International Brotherhood of Teamsters would not endorse Trump but deep internal divisions mean the union may not back any candidate at all, instead staying neutral.

That would mark the first time since 1996 the union failed to endorse a presidential contender.

Biden has campaigned heavily as a supporter of unions and union labor. One of his main talking points is about growing up in Scranton, a working-class town in Pennsylvania.

In a first, Sean O’Brien, the Teamsters union chief, addressed the Republican National Convention Monday night in Milwaukee.

He received top billing and gave his speech while former President Donald Trump was in attendance.

The calls for 81-year-old President Joe Biden to step aside have quieted down since Saturday’s assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump.

But The New York Times reported Tuesday that those concerns are still very much there, quoting Rep. Adam Schiff, the Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate in California, telling donors that the party would lose the Senate and its chance to retake the House if Biden remained at the top of the ticket.

‘I think if he is our nominee, I think we lose,’ Schiff said of Biden at an event Saturday in the Hamptons. ‘And we may very, very well lose the Senate and lose our chance to take back the House.’

The event was held Saturday before the news broke that Trump had been shot. The Republican nominee’s ear was grazed by a bullet.

As of now the Democratic National Committee plans to go forward with a plan to virtually nominate Biden weeks ahead of the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, due to an Ohio ballot deadline.

During the Hamptons fundraiser, Schiff expressed frustration with the Biden campaign for refusing to engage with outside pollsters and political experts.

One donor contacted by The Times said he left the event feeling dejected and believed his money was better spent on down-ballot races than trying to prop up Biden’s struggling campaign.

Trump told J.D. Vance's wife Usha what Melania really thinks about political life

By Katelyn Caralle, Senior U.S. Political Reporter in Milwaukee, Wisconsin

Former first lady Melania Trump and Sen. J.D. Vance ‘s wife Usha have something in common, Donald Trump revealed to his new running mate’s wife.

The Vances were at an event with Trump last month when he asked Usha what she thought of being in political life having a senator – and then-prospetive vice presidential nominee – as a husband.

When she gave an indifferent response, the former president replied claiming wife Melania ‘hated it too,’ which sparked laughter from Usha, according to a New York Times report on Trump’s new running mate.

Melania Trump largely remained absent from the 2020 and 2024 campaign trail after having a more public role in her husband’s first bid for the White House in 2016.

After months of speculation and narrowing of the shortlist, Trump announced on Monday he selected Sen. Vance as his running mate. Just an hour later, delegates at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin voted Vance as their vice presidential nominee for November.

MSNBC host Joy Reid becomes latest TV star to imply that Trump is partly-responsible for assassination attempt

MSNBC host Joy Reid has become the latest TV host to imply that Donald Trump is partly to blame for the assassination attempt against him.

Reid was on air with fellow MSNBC star Rachel Maddow covering the Republican National Convention when she suggested the former president was suffering the ‘consequences’ of ‘promoting’ violence.

‘The idea of political violence that we’ve been nursing really… is so dangerous,’ Reid said. ‘It’s so dangerous that you cannot avoid the consequences of it, even if you’re one of the people promoting it.’

Reid stressed that she did not want to see Trump ‘rewrite himself as a victim’ – and used reports of voter intimidation in Arizona as an example of the political violence she says Republicans have been nurturing.

‘I think about the people who tried to vote in Arizona when men with long guns were standing outside of the polling places to send them a message,’ she explained.

Incredible new footage shows immediate aftermath of Trump shooting and why former president kept asking Secret Service agents for his shoes

The video follows Dailymail.com exclusive photos on Monday showing a ladder hidden behind trees and propped up on the side of the AGR building and leading directly to the rooftop where Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20, unleashed his volley of shots directly at the stage.

Secret Service – who have come under heavy scrutiny for their efforts that day – rush to surround the former president to insulate and shield him from further gunfire.

Initially dazed, Trump told agents: ‘let me get my shoes, let me get my shoes’ as he got up from the ground.

The former president wore a bandage on his right ear where the bullet fired by Thomas Matthew Crooks ripped through his skin.

It could have been his wake, but after officially securing his nomination and anointing Sen. J.D. Vance as his running mate, Trump arrived for a celebration.

He walked to the ‘family suite’ of oversized armchairs, surrounded by the royal family of MAGA: Vance, his sons Eric and Don Jr. (who had tears in his eyes), daughter Tiffany, former Fox news anchor Tucker Carlson and other senior Republicans.

And his supporters echoed the defiant words he used on Saturday when he picked himself up from the ground, his face bloodied. ‘Fight, fight, fight,’ echoed through the arena.

Joe Scarborough 'very disappointed' with Morning Joe being pulled off air after Trump assassination attempt: Host slams network executives

Furious MSNBC host Joe Scarborough said he was ‘very disappointed’ that his flagship morning show Morning Joe was pulled off air after the assassination attempt on Donald Trump, and threatened to walk out if it happened again.

The decision to yank the show on Monday sparked huge backlash and suggestions it was an admission by NBC that they didn’t trust the anchors to cover the horrific shooting.

Scarborough and co-host and wife Mika Brzezinski returned to the air on Tuesday morning, and vented their frustration at the network executives they say blindsided them.

It came hours after Trump was given a rockstar welcome as he walked into the Republican National Convention with a bandage on his right ear, where the bullet fired by Thomas Matthew Crooks ripped through the skin.

‘Before we start this hour. Willie (Geist, co-host), I just wanted to briefly talk to our friends and viewers that watch us every day and talk about what happened yesterday,’ Scarbrough said.

‘We were told, in no uncertain terms on a Sunday evening that there was going to be one news feed across all NBC news channels yesterday, and today’s show would be Lester Holt.

‘Other people that, well, you worked with on Sunday and that was going to be one news feed across all NBC news channels that we were going to stay as a network in breaking news mode throughout, all day yesterday.

‘That did not happen,’ Scarborough added, telling viewers how MSNBC returned to its regular programming which included the first day of the Republican National Convention.

‘We don’t know why that was. That didn’t happen.’

‘Our team was not given a good answer as to why that didn’t happen, but it didn’t happen. We were also told it was going to happen throughout the day,

‘And I guess after there was such a strong blowback about, yesterday morning, I guess they changed their plans.

‘And so those plans changed as well. So it didn’t.

‘And, you know, we’ve talked about it, off the air.

‘We’ll talk about it on the air because we talk about everything on the air. We were very surprised. We were very disappointed. And if we had known that there wasn’t going to be the one news feed, from NBC news across all NBC news channels. Willie, we obviously would have been in yesterday morning.’

Scarborough then said the next time it happens they will be in the chairs covering breaking news, or else the network can get ‘somebody else’.
