Mother Amie Gray, 34, was stabbed multiple times by a knifeman as she was murdered on Bournemouth beach, an inquest has heard.

The fitness coach’s cause of death was revealed as police continued to question a 20-year-old man on suspicion of her murder.

The 34-year-old postal worker was attacked by a knifeman at Durley Chine Beach at 11.42pm last Friday night.

Ambulance crews summoned to the scene battled to save her but a five-minute inquest opening at Bournemouth Coroners Court was told Amie Louise Gray was pronounced dead at 12.24am on May 25th. 

A 38-year-old woman, who was also stabbed, remains in hospital with serious injuries. She has not yet been named.

A 20-year-old man from Croydon, south London, has been arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder and remains in custody.

The postal worker body was identified by a family liaison officer using photographs supplied by family members.

No members of her family were present at the inquest opening with brief details surrounding her death read out by coroner’s officer Grace Monroe.

She said: ‘On May 24 at 11.42pm Dorset Police received reports that two people had been stabbed on Durley Chine Beach.

‘Very sadly she was pronounced dead at the scene at 12.24am. She was formally identified by the family liaison officer by comparison with a photo provided by the family of Amie Gray.

‘Police investigations are ongoing.’

A post mortem carried by Dr Purdue on May 25th gave the cause of death as multiple stab wounds.

Bournemouth Coroners Court was told Gray was employed as a postal worker and lived in Sea View Road, Poole.

She was married to Sian Gray whose occupation was given as beauty therapist.

The coroner’s officer said police received a report of two people being stabbed on Durley Chine Beach.

Coroner Rachael Griffin was told police were alerted to an incident on May 24th at 23.42. Gray was pronounced dead 38 minutes later.

The Coroner said she was aware there was an ongoing investigation into Gray’s death and said she would request an update.

She adjourned the inquest until December 11.
