This is the moment a United States military airplane’s landing gear failed during an emergency landing in Colombia.

A video filmed by a bystander captured the Beechcraft C-12C Huron landing on the runway at El Dorado International Airport in Bogotá on Thursday afternoon when the plane encountered the mechanical failure.

The video footage showed the U.S. Air Force plane reducing its speed down the runway when its landing gear abruptly collapsed.

The pilot was able to control the aircraft and safely brought it to a stop in the middle of the strip.

An Aircraft Fire and Fire truck could be seen tailing the airplane and extinguishing the ground to prevent the fuel from setting off a fire.

The aircraft remained on the ground for nearly five hours, preventing the airport from allowing planes to take off and land from the runaway located on the northern end.

Video footage released by the Colombian Civil Aviation Authority showed how special inflated devices were placed under the two airplanes wings.

A separate video showed a crane lifting the airplane off the ground.

A similar incident took place in April 2018 when a Beechcraft C-12C Huron belonging to the U.S. Embassy requested an emergency landing in Colombia.

The plane departed from Antonio Nariño Airport in Pasto, Nariño and was heading to El Caraño Airport in Quibdó, Chocó when the pilot reported problems with the landing gear.

The airplane was diverted to La Florida Airport in Tumaco, Nariño, 685 miles southwest of Bogotá. No injuries were reported.

The State Department told The Daily Mail that ‘a Beechcraft C-12 belonging to the U.S. Embassy’s Department of Defense Office experienced a mechanical malfunction’ that forced a hard landing at El Dorado Airport.

‘While the pilot recovered the aircraft safely, the incident required a brief closure of a runway. There were no injuries to aircrew or groundcrew,’ the department said in a statement.
