Two young girls have hit out about the cost of living crisis after an ice cream van tried to charge them £9 for two ice creams.
Twins Marnie and Mylah, from Burnley, were walking in a park when they thought they would stop for an ice cream.
The cost of living has hit many households in the UK, with families having to cut back on non-essentials and making their pennies and pounds count.
But the eight-year-olds didn’t quite realise how much goods had shot up in price until they arrived at the ice cream van, saw the price and got a big shock.
Their mother asked them what had just happened when one of the twins said: ‘There’s an ice cream van there selling just two ice creams with chewing gums in for bloody £9.

‘[He’s] gonna get nowhere! The one that comes down my street is either £1 or £2. He’s gonna get nowhere with that. He should know.’
World champion dancers Marnie and Mylah were standing at the van with cash in their hands ready to pay when they realised that not only were the prices extortionate but that they only accepted card payment.
They went on to say: ‘He only does bloody card. I’m stood there with my cash. [It’s] bloody well bad.’
But the feisty youth hadn’t finished her rant and ended it by saying: ‘I bet he can hear me!’
Prices for a single 99 flake have spiked to shocking highs of £5.75 – showing the drastic shift as Britain’s favourite cone becomes unaffordable for much of the country.
The delicacy – said to be named after an Italian phrase that describes it as being top-class – is a staple of the country’s parks and beaches.
But vans in London, Birmingham and Newcastle all breached £3.50 for a single cone last month.
At one popular tourist attraction in Coventry, a mother forked out £5.70 for a twin ice cream with a flake.
Outside a stall on the Serpentine lake in Hyde Park, which is run by the Royal Parks charity, prices for a 99 are edging towards £6 – with extra toppings costing 25p extra.
The clip of the twins went on to become a viral sensation, racking up thousands of views on Instagram and millions on TikTok.
