This is the shocking moment a drunken thug puts a policeman in a headlock and attempts to choke him as he is being arrested.
David Poultney, 31, was being placed under arrest for criminal damage caused at his ‘cheating’ girlfriends house when he committed the crazed act.
The PC had been attempting to speak with Poultney about a domestic disturbance which saw the enraged suspect accuse his partner of cheating on him.
Appearing before Chester Crown Court, prosecution stated how an out-of-control Poultney had began verbally abusing the occupant in a drunken rage while her three young children were there.
During the video, which was captured on the evening of August 30 last year, the PC can be heard telling Poultney that ‘cheating isn’t a crime’.
A Cheshire Police patrol had responded to the call after the victim alleged that Poultney had smashed her television.
The footage was also played for the court, which shows Poultney placing an officer in a headlock and tightening his grip whilst he taunts and threatens to choke him unconscious.
Poultney can also be heard shouting: ‘It’s my TV lad! Are you mad, bro? Are you mad, bro? What you sayin, lads? What you sayin, lads?’
A second officer, who had been upstairs taking a statement from the victim, then quickly intervened to come to his partner’s aid.
Breaking Poultney’s tight grip, the 31-year-old was finally placed under arrest with the officers then conducting a drug search of his person.
They found cannabis in his possession, which he had claimed was tobacco, and he was further arrested on possession of a class B drug.
A subsequent charge of intentional strangulation was also added in addition to the drug charge and criminal damage.
Poultney pled guilty to all three charges before Chester Crown Court last December and was later sentenced to 18 months behind bars.
PC Lythgoe, who arrested Poultney, said: ‘We as a force will never tolerate any form of violent or threatening behaviour against anyone, and I’m glad that Poultney is being held accountable for his actions.
‘Officers regularly put their own lives at risk to protect others and they don’t go to work to be assaulted.
‘Poultney could have caused significant harm and I hope that this result demonstrates we will not stand this type of behaviour in Cheshire’.
