Modern Family star Aubrey Anderson-Emmons has revealed that she would ‘definitely’ be interested in reprising her iconic role in a sitcom spin-off series – four years after the hit on-screen show came to an end.
Aubrey, 16, was just four-years-old when she joined the cast of the hit ABC program during it’s third season in 2011, and played the part of Mitchell and Cameron’s adopted daughter, with Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Eric Stonestreet playing her onscreen parents.
The series finale, which aired in April 2020, saw Cam and Mitchell – along with Lily and their baby boy Rexford – make the difficult decision to move to Missouri after Cam was offered his dream job.
Speaking exclusively to DailyMail.com, Aubrey has admitted that she thought ‘it was a good ending’ but is definitely open to a spin-off in the future that could give fans a glimpse of how the happy family got on in the Midwestern state – but she’d only do so under one very important condition.

The 16-year-old actress said she would ‘definitely be interested’ in starring in a spin-off series
Confirming that she has discussed a spin-off with her co-star Jesse, 48, but not with ABC, Aubrey said: ‘They really haven’t said much about anything. But my mom asked me, “Would you want to do that?” and I thought about it and I don’t know…
‘I think maybe if it happened – and probably if it did happen – I would be out of high school. So honestly, that would be fine with me, but I want to stay in high school because I only have less than a year and a half left.
‘I’d definitely be interested if the script was good and the dads were on board, but school is my priority right now – unless something great comes along.
‘I feel like the finale left possibilities and I think that’s why people are always talking about a spinoff of the Tucker Pritchard family,’ Aubrey added, revealing that plenty of fans have asked her about a spin-off in the comments on her social media pages.
Back in June 2022, father-of-two Jesse confirmed that a Modern Family spinoff script had been written but had not yet been pursued by the network.
‘The script’s out there and it’s very good. So, you know, who knows? If someone wants to produce it, maybe,’ he told Entertainment Tonight at the 2022 Tony Awards.
Aubrey confirmed that she never saw the supposed script and ‘didn’t even know about it until it had been dead for quite a while because the kids are usually the last to know’.
Despite her studies, the teenager – who lives in California with her mom Amy – is ‘really eager to get back to work as an actor’ and often turns to one for her co-stars for guidance.

Aubrey said Jesse is probably who she is ‘most in contact with’ from the show and often asks him for advice
‘I was just asking Jesse for advice the other day,’ Aubrey said. ‘He’s probably who I am most in contact with from like the show, we’re probably the closest out all the people that I know from the show more personally.’
Aubrey had just turned four-years-old when she landed the role of Lily and had done a ‘chemistry read’ with Jesse before the job was confirmed.
‘I remember preparing for my audition, but I think the fact that my mom videotaped me preparing for it is a part of why I remember it a little bit more,’ she explained.
‘But I kind of remember that nostalgia and the way it felt to practice because also keep in mind, I hated reading as a kid, and you can’t read that well when you’re four! So, I didn’t really read the lines, my mom would just tell me what they were, and I was pretty good at memorizing them,’ Aubrey added.
When asked how it feels to have been part of hugely successful sitcom at such a young age, Aubrey said that she ‘doesn’t really feel like a child star’.
‘Recently people at school have been mentioning that on TikTok, clips of me on the show when I was younger keep showing on on their “For You” page and it was kind of strange for a little bit because a lot of those scenes I don’t remember filming!
‘I think a lot of people think that being on a TV show or like being on a set with people is fun all the time, especially for kids, and people are always like, “Wow that must have been the most amazing experience of your life”, and it was an amazing experience and it’s built who I am, but at the same time people have to understand it’s work.
‘We’re there for work, and things get serious every now and then and that’s fine, you know, it’s just how it is – and especially for the kids since we’re doing a lot. We’re doing table reads, we’re doing school, we’re doing a lot of things, and it can get really, really stressful and a little bit chaotic, but that’s just how it is.

Aubrey admitted it was a ‘little bit crazy’ when she first started high school because she was in ‘a very tight space with so many people’ and therefore she would get recognized
‘I think people think that it’s a little bit sunshine and rainbows all the time, but that’s just not how it is… not because the people on set are mean but because that’s just how work gets.’

‘Once one person notices someone taking a picture with you, they’d be like, “wait what’s happening?” and then they’d be curious and tell other people and then it just kind of got out of hand.
‘But, you know, you still find friends who are genuine. I have a lot of amazing friends and I’m a musician, so I have a lot of cool music friends and theater friends as well. I’m at a smaller high school now. Some people made a fuss about it at first, but in all honesty, it’s fun because I know who my real friends are and that’s what matters.’
