A South n Police spokesman said they were notified about the crash by a neighbour who lived near the scene and also through an Apple alert.

Some iphones and Apple watches have an inbuilt ‘Crash Detection’ feature that helps users to reach emergency services through an automated ‘Emergency call’, according to Apple.

The feature helps to detect severe crashes for vehicles such as ‘sedans, mini-vans, SUV’s, utes and other passenger cars’.

When a user’s device has detected an impact such as ‘front, side, rear-end collisions, rollovers,’ an alarm with sound will be triggered along with an alert displayed by the device.
