Michael Bublé has opened up about how his son Noah’s liver cancer battle ‘reset’ his priorities in life.
The singer, 48, revealed how his son Noah, now ten, being diagnosed with hepatoblastoma at the age of three in 2016 ‘pulled the curtain from over his eyes’.
He emotionally confessed that the diagnosis was a ‘sledgehammer’ to his life and made him reset his priorities, focusing on his family rather than his career and ‘ego’.
Speaking to Steven Bartlett on The Diary of a CEO podcast, Michael appeared tearful as he said he will never be ‘carefree’ again in his life after his son’s cancer battle.
The star – who is married to Luisana Lopilato – explained: ‘My son’s cancer diagnosis rocked my world. It pulled the curtain from over my eyes. I don’t want to get deeper into it, but I don’t think I had context.

‘That was a sledgehammer to my reality, I will never be carefree again in my life, and that’s OK.
‘It is a privilege for me to exist and that pain, fear and suffering that comes with those sorts of things, it’s part of this life.
‘When it actually happened, I was going through a crisis. I don’t think I had my priorities straight. My family was always a love – I don’t think I was a terrible guy but it was blinders – career, ambition, how do I become the baddest, biggest, best? More ego, more power.’
Michael said he felt like he was living with a ‘curtain’ in front of him before his son Noah’s cancer diagnosis, when he made a promise to himself to abandon his ‘ego’.
‘It’s like life was lived with like a curtain in front of me, like a filter and the moment that they said “this is what’s happening”, that reality hit me – filter gone, in a moment,’ he went on.
‘I went OK, this is it, this is life, that is what’s important. It’s not like I thought about it, I didn’t, there was no time to process it.’
‘I remember closing my eyes and saying to myself, if we get out of this I’m living a different life, a better life. And I did, I made that promise to myself in a moment.

Noah had to undergo chemotherapy and radiotherapy following his diagnosis of hepatoblastoma, a rare type of liver cancer, and he is now in remission
‘I want to be kinder, I want to be more empathetic, I don’t want that ego and that false self to take over, I want to know how lucky I am.
‘I’m a lucky man, look at my wife, how did that happen, how did I get this incredible human being who is the best of all of us to lead me through and carry me through these things?’

As well as Noah, Michael shares kids Elias, seven, Vida, five, and Cielo, 16 months, with his actress wife Luisana.
Michael has previously spoke about Noah’s cancer diagnosis and how he felt like ‘the superhero I always wanted to be’ before being ‘changed’ by the ‘unthinkable’ ordeal.
Earlier this year, Michael told Red magazine: ‘That, of course, changed me in a big way – it changed what mattered to me, it changed how I saw life.
‘For most of my life as an entertainer and, especially on stage, I’d become my alter ego. I’d become the superhero I always wanted to be.

‘Then my wife and I went through this unthinkable thing, and I lost that alter ego.’
On maintaining a successful relationship with his wife Luisana, he added: ‘More than anything, my wife and I understand that each other’s fulfilment is important…
‘I’m not saying we’re perfect – nobody is – but we both have that understanding.
‘I won’t be touring for certain months next year because she’ll be filming a movie, and so I’ll be Daddy on set, and then she’ll do the same for me. We don’t care what we do – being together is the goal.’
