‘She had been suffering from lung issues and was on a strong medication regimen that worsened her health in the days leading up to her death, particularly due to kidney complications from intense treatment.’
While Dulce’s exact cause of death is not yet known, she was notably hospitalized earlier this month – prompting her to postpone some of her concerts.
Updates were posted to her main Instagram account at the time, and the singer herself wrote, ‘Dear friends, media, and supporters, I want to share that, upon medical advice, I am hospitalized for a health issue that needs care and rest.’
‘I am at peace, in good hands, and hopeful for a full recovery,’ she continued to her followers.
She underwent pleuropulmonary decortication surgery after being hospitalized a few weeks before Christmas.
The operation is a ‘procedure that involves the removal of the pleura, the thin membrane covering the lungs, and any visible tumor masses from the lung surface,’ per Yale Medicine.
The surgery ‘aims to preserve lung function while treating conditions such as malignant pleural mesothelioma or chronic pleural infections.’
Following the procedure, her team shared on social media: ‘Her recovery will take time, but the process is on track, and she may be discharged in the coming days.’
