Drunk late-night diners have been called out for leaving behind a massive mess at a McDonald’s and putting workers’ safety at risk, as a shocking video emerges.

The footage, shot at a McDonald’s restaurant on King Street in Newcastle, NSW, was shared on social media, sparking disgust from many ns.

The video shows tables in the restaurant strewn with rubbish, including paper bags, plastic cups, and empty food boxes scattered everywhere.

Drinks have been spilled on the floor, and two customers are shown falling asleep at their seats.

The video quickly sparked comments from social media users expressing their shock at the condition of the restaurant.

‘That’s what happens when you employ people who don’t care,’ one said.

‘King Street has always looked like that on the weekend. Everyone comes for a drunk feed when the clubs close,’ another said.

However, some ns came to the defence of the restaurant workers, claiming they shouldn’t be forced to clean up after intoxicated diners.

‘These drunk idiots are the lowest of the low. I feel sorry for the workers who have to deal with this mess,’ one person told Daily Mail .

A Google review stated: ‘My wife and I felt intimidated by a large crowd of young people who were very noisy and hassling staff.

‘There was rubbish on all the tables and floors. No cleaning had been done for a while, as staff were too afraid to leave the safety behind the counter.’

Another said: ‘Occasional drunk fights. Even just driving past it late at night will mean seeing something interesting or keeping your foot hovering over the break pedal,’ a second added.

‘Expect to see a lot of vomit there if you happen to be there after about 2am,’ another wrote.

A McDonald’s spokesperson said its King Street restaurant had implemented ‘a number of safety procedures’ to protect both staff and patrons.

These measures include 24-hour CCTV surveillance, alarm systems and security guards on overnight shifts from Friday to Sunday.

‘McDonald’s has a zero-tolerance policy for anti-social behaviour and expect our restaurants, people and customers to be treated with respect and decency at all times,’ they said.

‘We also follow strict cleaning, sanitation, and hygiene procedures in all restaurants, including routine dining-room cleaning.

‘We are working with the restaurant to ensure we continue to provide a safe and clean restaurant and a great customer experience.’

In September last year, the King Street store made headlines after a 23-year-old man ran to the McDonald’s for assistance after he was allegedly assaulted and set on fire.

A 20-year-old man was later hit with multiple charges, and the case remains before the courts.
