The clip then cuts to Riley celebrating her 13th birthday while blowing out candles on a cake surrounded by her parents.
Joy could be heard saying, ‘Our little girl’s growing up so fast,’ while another scene showed the teenager at the dentist.
Fear then confidently announced, ‘It should be nothing but smooth sailing from-‘ but was quickly interrupted by the arrival of a new emotion inside Riley’s mind: Anxiety.
‘Hello,’ the emotion happily greeted, causing the other emotions to scream out in shock and surprise. Anxiety then picked up an assortment of suitcases and added, ‘I’m Anxiety. Where can I put my stuff?’
Joy replied with concern, ‘A new emotion…,’ causing Anxiety to say, ‘Oh, I’m sorry! We wanted to make such a good first impression.’
Disgust quickly caught on and jumped forward to question, ‘What do you mean “we?”
Envy suddenly appeared and introduced herself to the group, and began gushing over Disgust’s green hair.
Anxiety cut in to also introduce Ennui who was laying on the couch while staring up at a phone. When Joy questioned the name, Ennui – played by Adele Exarchopoulos – explained in a monotone voice, ‘It’s what you would call the boredom.’

In the next scene, Riley could be seen going to an ice hockey rink and in the background, Anxiety said, ‘Look, we all have a job to do. I plan for the future.’
Another player then asked Riley if she wanted to sit and hang out with them and Envy burst out, ‘These girls are so cool!’
But then the emotions attempted to help Riley have a lowkey response, they failed to do so.
The teenager could be seen leaving her old friends for new ones, and Envy said, ‘But we need new friends, or we’ll be totally alone in high school.’
‘Out with the old, in with the new!’ Anxiety cut in, showing Riley’s old friends’ disappointed reaction when she left to hang out with another group.
Anxiety then attempted to take full control of her mind and told Joy, Disgust, Fear, Anger and Sadness, ‘Riley’s life requires more sophisticated emotions than all of you.’
Embarrassment then takes all five of the emotions and placed them inside a closed jar. Fear then yelled out, ‘We are suppressed emotions!’

‘At the very end if the original, Joy has that great moment where she’s like, “Finally, everything the way it’s supposed to be.” Then we see that big puberty button, “Should we press this?”‘
The star continued, ‘We do press it in the second movie. In some ways, Inside Out set itself up for a sequel and we’re going there.’
‘We’re going to have what it feels like to be a teenager, the new emotions that live inside a young person’s brain.’
