Married At First Sight expert John Aiken has given his final thoughts on the season 11 couples ahead of the anticipated reunion on Sunday night.

The former cricketer, 53, appeared on Today to reveal which couples he was shocked stayed together during Final Vows last week.

With four couples leaving the show hand-in-hand, John said he was stunned to see Sara Mesa and Tim Calwell stick it out until the end.

‘I was very surprised with Sara and Tim because she went behind his back. Caught up with the ex who she had feelings for,’ he said.

John went on to say he believed Tim was ‘too forgiving’ of her actions, and revealed he didn’t think Sara could turn her behaviour around and own up to her betrayal.

‘She really did the heavy lifting, put him first, and repaired. I thought that was the most surprising part of the experiment,’ he added.

The other couple John believed wouldn’t make it to Final Vows were controversial pair Tori Adams and Jack Dunkley.

‘He was one of the guys who said some things that absolutely floored, not only the group, but the experts,’ he said, referring to the ‘muzzle your woman’ comments.

John revealed the experts were all expecting Tori to leave the experiment because Jack was ‘too toxic’, but were shocked to see her ‘defend him’ every week.

It comes just hours after it was reported the stars of MAFS are in hot water with Channel Nine after enjoying a boozy night in Sydney after filming the reunion.

Despite producers reportedly not wanting the cast at ‘gatherings’ before the final results of the show aired, Daily Mail can reveal that a bevy of the show’s brides and grooms stepped out to celebrate Michael Felix’s birthday.

Lucinda Light, Cassandra Allen, Timothy Smith, Tristan Black, Eden Harper, Andrea Thompson, Stephen Stewart, Jade Pywell, Ash Galati and Natalie Parham were all in attendance.

Jonathan McCullough and fellow bride Ellie Dix also showed up.

There was no tension between Ellie and her jilted ex Ben, as they laughed off their ill-fated romance as he introduced the cast to his new German girlfriend, Aileen.

The cast had been placed at different hotels by producers in Sydney, so as to not ruin the ending prior the reunion which airs April 7 and 8 on Channel Nine.
