Turns out Mariska Hargitay had a little help naming the newest addition to her family – an adorable Siamese cat – after Taylor Swift’s 2022 hit Karma in a ‘full circle’ moment back in November.
The 59-year-old Emmy winner had selected the ‘fitting, fair, and perfect’ moniker with help from her 12-year-old daughter Amaya Hermann, who ‘wasn’t having it any other way.’
‘It was a no-brainer. It just felt so right,’ Mariska said in her People cover story on Wednesday.
‘Her name was Karma from minute one. That was her name.’
Hargitay and Amaya ignored suggestions from the three men of the family – her husband Peter Hermann, 17-year-old son August, and 12-year-old son Andrew.

The Law & Order: SVU producer-star and her 56-year-old Blue Bloods star originally met in 2001 while working together on the set of her NBC police procedural, and they’ve been happily married for 19 years.
When the 34-year-old pop star discovered Mariska’s touching feline tribute, she replied on Instagram: ‘Are you serious?! Nothing has ever come more full circle. Love this so much!’
The honor came nearly a decade after Taylor adopted an adorable Scottish Fold cat, whom she famously named after Hargitay’s Law & Order character Olivia Benson.
‘I mean, it’s so like, “Wait, what? Taylor Swift named her cat after my character?”‘ Miss Beverly Hills 1982 recalled of the 2014 moment.
‘And I was so honored because Olivia Benson’s awesome, but also that it resonated with her. It was meaningful to me.’
Swift is also mother to two other fur-children – Scottish Fold cat Meredith Grey (who hates being photographed) and Ragdoll cat Benjamin Button – adopted in 2011 and 2019, respectively.
Mariska attended two of the 12-time Grammy winner’s concerts last summer with her daughter and Today co-anchor Savannah Guthrie.
‘Still in the afterglow of the most magical night. Deepest gratitude to @taylorswift for your poetry and wisdom,’ Hargitay – who boasts 3M Instagram followers – gushed.

Taylor – who’s dating Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce – is currently enjoying a much-needed holiday break from her $780M-grossing 151-date The Eras Tour, which resumes February 7 at Japan’s Tokyo Dome.
Meanwhile, Sam Wrench’s big-screen version Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour has amassed an eye-popping $261.6M at the global box office since opening October 11.
Swift has just two more archival albums (Taylor Swift and Reputation) to re-record after losing the rights to the first six of her master recordings by her underhanded ex-manager Scooter Braun.
