A manhunt was launched last night after a suspected targeted hit-and-run saw the victim run over twice by a car.

Shocking security camera footage appeared online showing the horrifying moment when the victim was hit by the small car before being run over again.

The vehicle then takes off out of sight of the camera as passers-by try to help the injured person, who is thought to be a woman.

But the car then turns around and comes back for more.

Police officers and paramedics swarmed the area following the incident in Muirhouse Parkway, Edinburgh, yesterday afternoon.

Detectives in forensic suits cordoned off the road and could be seen combing the area for evidence last night.

The disturbing footage appeared on social media platforms within hours of the incident.

It shows the victim holding their arms out in an attempt to defend themselves from the oncoming vehicle.

But it ploughs into the pedestrian, mounting a pavement and continuing over a grass verge.

The victim can then be seen lifted up onto the bonnet by the force of the impact before they appear to fall under the wheels.

One horrified onlooker tries to pull the victim out of the way at the same time as the car pulls out in front of traffic and the vehicle does a U-turn to come back again.

The car then remounts the grass verge and drives over the defenceless victim, who had been left motionless on the ground after the first hit.

In the CCTV footage shared online the vehicle then appeared to have driven off, with the victim left on the grass bank.

As the vehicle continued the Good Samaritan, who narrowly avoided being hit themselves, held their hands on their head while another shocked onlooker ran from the scene. Separate footage filmed by an eyewitness also shows the motionless victim wearing a neck brace as paramedics lift a stretcher into the back of an ambulance.

One social media user claimed they were travelling through the area just after the incident, and saw the victim ‘face down’ while it looked like ‘police were doing first aid’.

They said: ‘Police were running up and down the street blocking it off as we drove past.’

Another posted: ‘I hope the person is okay, but does look critical with all the paramedics there.’

The victim’s condition was last night not known. Police Scotland were approached for comment.

It is understood that officers later found the vehicle involved in the incident on the outskirts of the city.
