‘(He was a) really perfect man, honest, very polite,’ Mr Mazaheri told 7News. ‘He tried to help everyone.’

The fire was the result of an explosion that authorities believe could have originated in the kitchen.

Neighbours reportedly smelled natural gas indicating how the explosion could have been caused.

Terrified bystanders recalled the moment Mr Rasouli, who was an accountant, raced out of the building after his apartment went up in flames.

‘He made it out into the foyer … he was severely burned,’ witness Andrew Song said.

‘My wife and I were hoping that he would survive and we were praying for him.’

A firefighter who was also taken to hospital with chest pains after tackling the blaze is now recovering.
