A man is fighting for life after he was shot in the stomach by police in Queensland.
Cops attended the residence in Caboolture, north of Brisbane, about 10.30am on Wednesday on a ‘wanted person inquiry’.
When they arrived there were a number of people at the property including a 46-year-old man armed with a knife.
Audio from the CCTV of a neighbour’s house captured the dramatic stand-off which lasted about 20 seconds.
‘Police, don’t move,’ one officer said.
Officers instruct the man to stand up before one of them yelled ‘he’s got a knife’.
‘Police, drop the knife, drop the knife,’ an officer said.
One officer then discharged a single shot from their weapon, injuring the knife-wielding man in the abdomen.
Queensland Ambulance Service paramedics rushed the man to Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital in a critical condition.
Moreton District Detective Inspector Joe Zitny said police were following a lead regarding a ‘wanted person’.
‘As a result of them attending that address an altercation took place between a male occupant and the police,’ he said.
‘This resulted in a police firearm being presented and discharged. As a result a 46-year-old male has sustained an injury.’
The man remains in hospital and police have not said what the ‘wanted person inquiry’ was about.
The house appears to be in a recent residential subdivision with a childcare centre a short distance away.
Detectives have cordoned off a crime scene which is expected to remain until Wednesday night.
Police Ethical Standards Command are investigating the discharge of the police weapon.
