A man has been charged with attempted murder after a police officer was critically wounded in a suspected hit-and-run.
Simranjit Kajla, 28, is accused of attempting to kill Thames Valley Police officer PC Christopher Miller following the incident in Stoke Poges, Buckinghamshire on May 22.
Kajla, of Slough, also faces charges of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, driving whilst disqualified and driving without insurance.
He is due to appear before Reading Magistrates’ Court today. Three other people arrested in connection with the crash remain under investigation.
A 38-year-old from Slough, who was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and causing serious injury by dangerous driving, has been released on police bail until 23 August.
A 43-year-old man from Slough, who was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender and perverting the course of justice, has been released under investigation.
A 37-year-old woman from Slough, who was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender and perverting the course of justice, is still in police custody.
PC Miller, 38, had been with the roads policing unit for five years, and had been in the police for 13 years before the incident last week.
He sustained ‘life-threatening injuries’ at around 10.20pm on May 22 on the B416 Bells Hill, between Decies Way and Rogers Lane in Stoke Poges, when he was struck by a white BMW.
The vehicle failed to stop and drove into him, Thames Valley Police previously said.
His family are being supported by specially trained family liaison officers, as are his closest colleagues.
TVP’s Major Crime Department has been leading the investigation.
In an earlier appeal, police had urged anyone who may have seen a white BMW driving ‘erratically’ between Stoke Poges and Slough to get in touch.
The force’s Deputy Chief Constable Ben Snuggs said officers had been doing doing ‘all they can’ to investigate the circumstances of PC Miller’s ‘extremely serious injuries’.
He added: ‘Police officers face danger every day. In this incident, PC Christopher Miller was simply doing his job, serving the public and keeping our communities safe.
‘All officers should expect to return home safely after each tour of duty, and we wish Christopher a swift and full recovery.
‘We have all been affected by this, right across Thames Valley Police. I want to thank our local communities in Slough for all their support and the wider public for the supportive messages we have received.’
David Moore, Conservative councillor for Farnhams and Stoke Poges, said the local community had been ‘shaken’ by the devastating collision which has left both residents and councillors ‘appalled’.
Councillor Moore added: ‘I am deeply shocked and saddened to learn that one of our brave police officers is fighting for his life following this horrific incident.
‘My thoughts and prayers are with him and his loved ones at this incredibly difficult time, and I wish him a full and swift recovery.
