The synopsis of Coup! reads: ‘Isolated on a seaside estate, an entitled journalist (Billy Magnussen) and his socialite wife (Sarah Gadon) take in a mysterious grifter as a private cook (Peter Sarsgaard).
‘When a plague descends on the island, the wily cook rouses his fellow staff to rebel and take over the mansion. Their employer suspects the cook’s coup is part of a more sinister agenda, and mind games between master and servant escalate into all-out class warfare’.
The supporting cast includes Faran Tahir (Iron Man), Kristine Nielsen (The Gilded Age), and Fisher Stevens (Succession).
Writer-director team Joseph Schuman and Austin Stark (The God Committee) said in a statement: ‘Coup! was a labor of love, and it’s been an honor to work with Peter, Billy, Sarah and the rest of our incredible cast and crew.’
Meanwhile, Peter recently revealed that he didn’t know Maggie was an actress when he first fell for her.
‘I met Maggie at a dinner, and I didn’t even know she was an actress. I knew nothing about her, but it was instant,’ he told People of their attraction to each other when they met in 2001.
‘Then Secretary came out maybe six months later, and I was like, “Oh whoa. Okay. She’s not like any other actress in the world,”‘ he added.
Sarsgaard shared that a few years into their relationship, he was offered a role in the film Jarhead, opposite Jake Gyllenhaal.

The pair have also worked together, including on Broadway, where Maggie directed him in The Seagull, and in The Lost Daughter.
‘I love working with her,’ he told the publication.
‘She’s a great director and I think that stems from being just a great host in general and knowing what people need. Some people need to be told where to go, other people need to be left alone, and she’s amazing at sensing that.’

It’s been two years since Maggie’s last major film project — The Lost Daughter, which she directed — and three years since she has acted in a major film role.
Despite her acting and writing hiatus, the versatile A-lister is reportedly set to direct a Bride Of Frankenstein remake next, according to Collider.
The film will make its debut on Netflix and will feature Christian Bale and Maggie’s husband among the cast.
No release date has been confirmed for The Bride Of Frankenstein as of writing.
