Jono McCullough worried fans as he discussed the impact the ‘horrible’ trolling has had on him since his appearance on Married At First Sight.

Jono, 39, was embroiled in an on-screen controversy when it was revealed he had been texting Ellie Dix, who had already left the show, without telling his bride Lauren Dunn.

Jono adamantly insisted the texts were completely innocent, but the blow-up ultimately led to the end of his rocky relationship with PR maven Lauren, 32.

At the MAFS reunion, Jono then debuted his new relationship with nurse Ellie, 32, but the couple insisted their bond had only become romantic after filming ended.

The couple have since criticised the show for allegedly showing their relationship in negative light, and Jono has now opened up on the brutal trolling he has dealt with.

He worried fans when a video circulated on Instagram showing him looking upset as he discussed the ‘horrible’ trolling he and Ellie have received over their relationship.

The business owner admitted it has been ‘hard’ to ‘get up each morning’ as he told how he and Ellie have both received vile comments from cruel trolls.

He candidly shared: ‘This goes out to all the haters, all the people who’ve said the negative comments – I get it, I understand. People ask me, “do you hate the trolls” and I say “no”, because if I saw what they saw, I’d probably feel the same way.

‘I probably wouldn’t go as far as some people have, there’s been some pretty horrible stuff, but you know, I get it.

‘No matter how strong you are, it takes a toll, it does, it’s been hard getting up each morning and being confronted by all the negativity, but I get it, I do.

‘To all the people who sent love and support, it’s a surprise to us, but man, we’re super appreciative.

‘As I said, if I saw what you guys saw and didn’t know anything else, I wouldn’t send as nasty stuff as I’ve seen, but I get it.’

Taking to the comments section, an array of fans flocked to support the new couple as they slammed the cruel trolls for bombarding him with hate messages.

They wrote: ‘Love you Jono and Ellie! Make the haters wrong;’ ‘People let it go – enough enoughs;’

‘People need to mind their own business. Simple.. They’re all lying if they say they’ve never made a mistake in their time. It’s a bl**dy reality tv show. Move on people! Chin up Jono;’

‘Wishing you and Ellie all the happiness;’ ‘Don’t get sucked into the bulls**t!!! There are bigger things in life mate;’

‘Don’t care what people think. You and Ellie have found love and that’s all that matters. People should understand by now how they edit reality TV shows by now. Chin up and just enjoy each other.’

It comes after Jono recently criticised MAFS producers for his edit on the reality TV show in a bombshell interview with Daily Mail .

Jono claimed that the production team seized on Lauren’s character assessment of him as a ‘robot’ and edited footage to make him appear that way.

‘There was no looking after each other from Lauren’s side. She was immediately behind my back saying, “I’m a boring robot”,’ he explained.

‘It’s like living with a serial killer, and I had no idea she was saying this, but it was a good storyline and it seems like they (producers) decided to run with it.’

‘They just found footage of me staring blankly when I should have been talking, and yeah, it was pretty, pretty tough to watch, actually,’ he added.

However, Jono also expressed some compassion towards Lauren, particularly in light of the backlash she has faced.

‘She was originally upset by the table turning against her, and that was led by Jayden,’ he reflected. ‘And watching it back last night, I even found myself feeling sorry for Lauren.’

Meanwhile, Ellie – who left the show after ending her relationship with Ben Walters – also detailed the emotional toll her ‘villain’ portrayal in the reunion took on her.

‘It was really rough. Feeling so exhausted just from watching Monday’s episode,’ Ellie told Daily Mail .

The couple said they felt producers deliberately decided to show their relationship in negative light during the reunion as they criticised how they were portrayed.

‘We were hoping they were going to show it as a beautiful thing that came out of this experiment, and they just chose to show us looking pretty evil, like laughing at Sara and Tim and Lauren and this is not how it happened,’ Jono said.

‘I think they showed every bit of PDA we had over 6 hours and some of it multiple times cramped into one minute,’ he claimed.

‘I could see why people would say we’re mean people after watching that, but it’s not how it happened,’ Ellie added.

‘I’ve actually never been called a “mean girl” in my life. And anyone that I meet would be like, “I can’t believe that’s Ellie”. It’s just so not me.’
