Machine Gun Kelly spoke candidly about his late father’s troubled childhood, which he believes was a key factor in their strained relationship.

The 34-year-old rapper revealed his dad, who passed away in July 2019, watched his own father die from an accidentally-inflicted gunshot wound during his recent appearance on the Dumb Blonde podcast.

At the age of nine, the superstar’s father faced trial alongside his mother for the death of his father and her husband.

‘The story that was always told to me was that their dad dropped the gun, and his head essentially blew off,’ the hitmaker, whose real name is Colson Baker, explained.

‘All happened in the room with my dad at 9 years old. So him and my grandmother were tried for the murder,’ he added. ‘They were both acquitted.’

It wasn’t until the musician grew older that he began to understand how these traumatic events had affected his father and strained their relationship.

‘I just remember that I always used to get so mad at him when I was a kid, because if I scared him or he heard a loud boom or a loud noise, he would freak out, like gnarly freak out,’ he recalled..

‘And I would be like, “You’re supposed to be a man, dude, like why are you acting like this?” And it just made me hate him.

‘But then you sit there and you think about a kid who was on trial at nine years old for the murder of his father.’

He added: ‘My father’s childhood journey definitely bled into mine.’

MGK admitted he has portrayed himself as someone capable of handling the pressures of fame, criticism, and negativity.

‘Because I fought back with all those traumas by becoming what I always wanted my dad to be, which was like tough and shake everything off and just fight anyone who comes at you.’

MGK admitted his past choices were unsustainable and that he’s now working on self-improvement, realizing he no longer has the energy for his old image.

The Emo Girl singer has previously addressed his family’s challenging history, including a conversation with his daughter Casie Baker, now 15, in his 2022 documentary Life in Pink.

‘It’s crazy ’cause they actually took my dad to trial at 9 years old,” he says in the documentary, while reading a newspaper article about the 1968 events. ‘Cause he never took a chance to heal, all that stuff, it came out on me as I grew up.’

The conversation notably altered Casie’s view of her father, as she reflected, ‘I can see why my dad was so depressed, ’cause like, it kind of passed on through generations to him.’

The hitmaker – who dates Megan Fox – took to Instagram in 2022 to introduce his estranged mother – whose name has not been announced to the public – one year after he revealed that they had reconnected thanks to his fans.

He shared a snap to the platform, which showed them sitting cross-legged and leaning into each other, while flashing big smiles at the camera.

He wrote in the caption: ‘Introducing … my mom.’
