Commuters have been warned to expect major delays on Northbound lanes of the M1 motorway on the Gold Coast after an accident involving a truck.

Queensland Police have warned drivers to expect significant delays due to the closure of the motorway, with all northbound traffic being diverted at the Yatala South exit.

Motorists are advised to find an alternate route, with delays of up to two hours and traffic backed up to Movie World.

One man has died following the incident with the truck about 12.49am on Thursday.

Police rushed to find the pedestrian with life threatening injuries, before pronouncing him deceased at the scene.

A second patient was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital in a stable condition.

‘Investigations continue into the nature of the traffic incident; however, the death is being considered non-suspicious,’ a Queensland Police spokesman said.

Police will prepare a report for the Coroner in relation to the incident.

On Wednesday, the Pacific Motorway ground to a halt following a three-car crash about 8am.

Traffic in the affected northbound lanes of the highway came to a standstill near Ormeau.

Tow trucks rushed to the scene to clear the crashed vehicles.

Queensland Fire Department reported no injuries in the incident.
