Love Island will make a much-anticipated return to TV screens on Monday June 3, as the popular show returns for a new series.

Since first being broadcast in 2015, Love Island has proved to be a hit with viewers year upon year.

Although the show has been popular with viewers for nearly a decade, there have been some questionable editing moments picked out by eagle-eyed watchers – leading them to question if the show is as authentic as it is portrayed to be.

Ahead of the new series of Love Island, here is a look at some of the biggest editing blunders since the show began.

Laura’s glass mysteriously switches places during Jack’s untimely dumping

The show was notoriously hit with fix claims by regular viewers in 2018, after they noticed that Laura Anderson’s wine glass mysteriously moved from behind a cushion to the table when she was dumped by Jack Fowler in heartbreaking scenes.

While she was seen to fiddle with her glass, as he rounded out his speech, the vessel moved from being next to her to sitting on the table in front of them.

Speaking after the incident, a spokesperson for the show admitted that this particular clip, like others in the show, was edited.

They told : ‘We can’t show everything that happens due to time constraints, so of course the show is edited. What is seen is an accurate and fair representation of what has happened in the villa.’

Sources added: ‘There is nothing more to this than the fact that Laura will have been sipping her drink throughout the conversation, and yes naturally it will have been longer in reality but owing to time constraints has to be edited down.’

Ghost hand

One of the most famed editing howlers from last year’s series involved the bizarre appearance of a mystery hand while Scott Van Der Sluis and Molly Smith could be seen soaking up the sun together.

Although Molly was in the same camera shot as Scott, she was not close enough to be touching him.

What makes the incident all the more bizarre is that the hand does not appear to have an arm attached, something that concerned and confused fans in equal measure.

In similar fashion to the incident involving Laura’s wine glass, it caused fans to accuse the show of being unnecessarily edited.

With this in mind, one user on X, formerly Twitter, posted a warning to fellow viewers at the time, as they wrote: ‘This should probably be a reminder to everyone that this show is heavily edited and not to take things so seriously.’

Jack and Georgia kissing scandal

Georgia Steel caused chaos when she kissed Jack Fowler at the end of a date, only to admit that the kiss was filmed more than once

Jack Fowler was at the centre of another infamous Love Island controversy after Georgia Steel caused friction in the villa when she picked Jack, who was coupled up with Laura, to go on a date with her.

She then caused chaos when she kissed him at the end of the date, only to admit that the kiss was filmed more than once.

‘There was so much going on in the day I didn’t really know what was going on at that time I just kind of do what I wanna do and they get different angles,’ she said.

‘I honestly don’t remember. I have no idea because there’s so much going on then I’m just focusing on how many times I’ve gotta do whatever I’ve gotta do. Was it more than twice? Yeah,’ she admitted.

However, Georgia was also quick to defend the ITV2 show, pointing out: ‘At the end of the day it’s a television programme but if anyone was real in that villa it’s me and I was completely how I am, I did what I feel.’

‘It is a TV programme, things have to get filmed in different angles to get put on television, that’s how television works. But, nothing is fake, nothing is said that is staged, it’s all to do with how you feel.’

On the 2021 edition of the show, another glaring error was spotted by fans, when they noticed that Mary Bedford’s hair went from being down to tied up in a matter of seconds.

The incident came in an episode where Toby was unable to decide if he wanted to be coupled up with Mary, Abi or Chloe – which he was deliberating over when a glaring error in the editing process occurred.

The camera had panned to Mary when Toby was conversing with the boys about her showing that her hair was down.

Suddenly, after Abi came over and the camera looked at Mary again, her hair was up- a change in her appearance that could not have occurred in the split second between the two shots.

Smooching sounds leave viewers in horror

Viewers of the summer series that aired in 2019 were begging producers to ‘turn the sound off’ after Harley Brush and Chris Taylor shared their first kiss.

While many fans were delighted to see the pair take their romance to the next level, some took to social media to lament their loud exchange.

It came as Chris’ luck finally seems to be changing as he pursues a romance with blonde beauty Harley, as he moved in for the kill after asking if she was a ‘spontaneous’ person.

Some fans struggled to watch the exchange due to the kissing sounds, with one even begging producers to turn the volume down.

Wrapped up in the kiss, the couple smothered each other in caresses as their romance heated up under the twinkling fairy lights.

Another big blunder by the Love Island filming crew occurred during the 2023 winter series, which was filmed in South Africa in March of that year.

During one of the evening challenges, Zara Lackenby-Brown’s false eyelashes appeared to be falling off in one clip.

It appeared as though she had taken them off, only for them to reappear later on in the scene.

One TikTok user, who spotted the editing error, wrote: ‘Have they just edited the questions in the wrong order?

‘Or have they edited her reaction there to make it look worse than it is? Definitely starting to think they’re making Zara out to be worse than she is.’
