The Love Island contestants discovered the results of the UK election after show rules were broken.

Despite ITV bosses ‘main rule’ being that bombshells can’t speak about current affairs, the outside information was leaked.

But despite being banned from learning the results of the General Election, the cast will reportedly get to join the rest of the nation tuning into England’s Euro 2024 final.

A source told The Sun: ‘The islanders do actually know the result of the election – the main rule when bombshells go in is that they’re not allowed to tell the cast any information about the outside world, but the result of the election has leaked into the villa so they know.

‘Huge news like that does tend to get given away by bombshells.’

Show bosses encouraged Islanders to vote and gave them time away from filming to partake in the proxy vote where, due to being overseas, or they could request somebody to vote on their behalf on July 4.

It comes after it was revealed the stars will get to join the rest of the nation tuning into England’s Euro 2024 final, despite being banned from learning the results of the General Election.

While stars are typically cut off from the outside world and all its news during their time in the villa, sources have claimed that the stars will get to watch the match while Aftersun is being broadcast later in the evening.

England will go head-to-head with Spain in the blockbuster Euro 2024 final on Sunday, with its broadcast set to be the most-watched television event of the year.

This comes despite bombshells reportedly being told they should not share results of the recent General Election, despite the cast being advised to vote by proxy before jetting to Mallorca to take part in the show.

This isn’t the first time show bosses have flouted rules for a one-off event, as the 2021 series saw Islanders tune into England’s heartbreaking loss against Italy in the Euro 2020 final.

Ahead of the Love Island launch last month, executive producer Mike Spencer confirmed that this year’s lineup would still have the opportunity to vote, even if they were due to be in the villa when the registration period closed.

He stated: ‘We want to make sure they are voting, because, of course, we want everyone to vote.’

The decision to keep this year’s election results a secret may come as a surprise, after show boss Mike Spencer insisting the series strives to education viewers on serious matters around dating and sex.

The series has previously sparked awkward viral moments when focusing on world issues, with Hayley Hughes famously asking whether Brexit was related to ‘trees’ in the fourth series in 2018.

Reality shows have previously bent the rules regarding major world events to ensure stars receive the most vital updates, with Big Brother famously telling housemates in 2017 the results of that year’s General Election.

Host Emma Willis shared the results with the housemates live on air, confirming that no party had received an outright majority, resulting in a hung Parliament, and confimed that ‘Theresa May was still Prime Minister.’

The housemates seemed underwhelmed and confused by the result, and sat silently before Rebecca said: ‘I don’t understand politics.’

In 2009, Big Brother announced the death of singer Michael Jackson to the rest of the house, with many housemates sharing their devastation.

Love Island had previously pushed back Sunday’s show to 10pm to avoid a clash with Sunday’s final, but have since gone back on their plan, and will now go head-to-head with the match at 9pm.

ITV have gone back on their decision and in another shock shake-up, Love Island will go head to head with the Euros 2024 final on Sunday night.

An insider confirmed that Aftersun will remain in its 10pm slot, following the main show as usual.

It comes after Wednesday night’s Love Island was pushed back by an hour for England’s Euro semi-final game against Denmark.

The Three Lions vanquished the Netherlands in a breathtaking victory to reach the Euro 2024 final.

Ollie Watkins’ 90th minute winner saw Gareth Southgate’s men book their place in Sunday’s showdown against Spain in Berlin, sparking wild celebrations across the nation where nearly 30million people were watching at home.

Around 21.6 million viewers across TV and streaming watched ITV’s coverage of the game.
