As the terrifying star of The Apprentice, Sir Alan Sugar has been part of some memorable television moments.

And now the businessman’s rags-to-riches life story is to be made into a drama series after he got a writer on board to pen his life story for the small screen.

Lord Sugar, 77, became inspired to share his life through a television series after watching the films Tetris and Blackberry which are both based on real-life stories about iconic tech products and their creators.

And soon producers will be looking at who can play the businessman-turned-television star.

It can be revealed that Lord Sugar – the former chairman of Tottenham Hotspur FC and founder of Amstrad – reached out to Noah Pink, the writer of Tetris, asking for his help on an ‘exciting movie project.’

Andrew Bloch, Lord Sugar’s long-term adviser confirmed that discussions are under way with production companies to make the project.

It is understood Netflix, the BBC and ITV have all expressed interest in the project.

Bloch told Jewish News there were ‘ideas on the table spanning from a straight biopic through to a drama inspired by real-life events.’

Friends say that he is keen to replicate the success of Tetris and Blackberry.

The first was a 2023 thriller film based on the events around the race to license and patent the video game Tetris from Russia in the late 1980s and followed Henk Rogers of Bullet-Proof Software who was at the helm.

Blackberry, meanwhile, is a dramatised account of the creation of the BlackBerry line of mobile phones by co-founders Douglas Fregin and Mike Lazaridis, and investor Jim Balsillie.

Growing up in Stamford Hill, North London, Lord Sugar achieved success after founding electronics company Amstrad aged 21, which became a highly successful household name before being sold in 2007.

From 1991 to 2001, he was the chairman and part-owner of Tottenham Hotspur football club, where he played a significant role in modernising its operations.

Lord Sugar has served as a life peer in the House of Lords since 2009. But his success has also come with numerous controversies and bust-ups along the way.

He famously clashed with Robert Maxwell before succeeding in purchasing Tottenham Hotspur, and fell out of love with the Labour Party he had previously donated money to after 2015.

Sugar has been accused of having an ‘outdated’ attitude towards women as result of comments about females in the workplace, and was also accused of racism over a tweet featuring the Senegal football team.

He has also clashed with television host Piers Morgan.
