Merseyside Police has confirmed a 53-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a car ploughed into crowds of Liverpool football supporters during a victory parade last night.
Assistant Chief Constable Jenny Sims has said it is believed that the car was able to follow an ambulance moments before the horrifying incident which resulted in injuries to 50 people.
Eleven people remain in hospital and all are in a stable condition and appear to be recovering well, the police said in an update this afternoon.
