A young girl has been left completely alone in the world after the deadly Texas floods killed her mother and father while their family-of-five was on vacation.
Jenna Burgess’ family was staying at the Blue Oak RV Park in Ingram, near San Antonio, when the Guadalupe River rapidly rose and swept their family away.
Her father John Burgess, 39, desperately clung to her brothers, ages five and one, as the water rushed in. Witnesses said John’s haunting last moments were spent clinging to a tree while trying to save his sons, are now missing.
Jenna was staying at a nearby camp that wasn’t impacted by the floods, but her brothers – who have not been seen since the floods broke out on July 4 – are among the 23 people still missing across the state.
Search efforts continue today, but officials have confirmed the operation has shifted from rescue to recovery.
As of Tuesday afternoon, the flash floods have claimed at least 108 lives, and authorities warn that the death toll is almost certain to rise.
Country singer Pat Green, who is Jenna’s uncle, detailed his own ‘heartbreaking’ loss as he and many Texans mourn the tragedy.
