Rep. Lauren Boebert’s 18-year-old son was part of a group of teenagers involved in a spate spate of vehicle break-ins and property theft in the republican’s district, according to prosecutors.
Tyler appeared in court with three other suspects on Wednesday afternoon wearing a striped white and black prison uniform. A judge in the case ruled that no images be taken of the hearing.
The teen waved to the camera as the court discussed increased media attention in the case, and at one point pointed at a screen, apparently admiring his own image.
Police say six people were victimized by the crime spree, including a toddler and an elderly person in a crime spree that allegedly saw him break into cars and steal credit cards.
Earlier in the day, rep Boebert broke her silence on Tyler’s arrest, saying hat her son will ‘take responsibility for his actions’ and ‘should be held accountable for poor decisions just like any other citizen.’

‘I love my son Tyler, who has been through some very difficult, public challenges for a young man and the subject of attention that he didn’t ask for,’ the controversial conservative said in the statement.
‘It breaks my heart to see my child struggling and in this situation, especially when he has been provided multiple opportunities to get his life on track. I will never give up on him and I will continue to be there for him.’
Tyler, a father of one, was taken into custody on Wednesday in Rifle and is facing over 20 possible charges, including felony charges of criminal possession of identification documents involving multiple victims and conspiracy to commit a felony
He also faces over 15 additional misdemeanor and petty offenses, it said.
Jail records say other charges he is being held on include theft of less than $300, criminal possession of a financial device and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Police have not described what Tyler Boebert is accused of doing. They said the investigation was ongoing and would not release any other information at this time.
There was no attorney listed as representing Tyler Boebert in court records. He was scheduled to appear in court in the afternoon.
Lauren Boebert, a staunch ally of former President Donald Trump, used to live in a town near Rifle, a city of about 10,000 people in western Colorado, but switched districts in December, escaping a tough reelection bid.
Earlier this month, she obtained a temporary restraining order against her ex-husband after accusing him of threatening to harm her and entering the family’s home without permission.
It was the latest in a series of flare-ups between her and Jayson Boebert. In seeking the order, she cited the family turmoil as another reason for her move to Windsor in her new district.
Boebert has been plagued by scandal since her debauchery and obnoxiousness at a performance of the musical Beetlejuice in September
Boebert revealed last year that Tyler, then 17, was going to be a father, making her a grandmother at the age of just 36.
‘Obviously, I’m a Christian, and there are standards that we like to uphold, but none of us do it perfectly,’ she said when asked if the teen pregnancy ‘challenged’ any of her conservative beliefs.
‘We can nitpick what the Bible says is right and wrong, but I think just having that heart posture of wanting to serve God, it’s so important.’
On Wednesday, local police cited the recent series of vehicle trespasses and property theft in the town.
Rifle Police Department posted on its Facebook page Wednesday that the investigation is ongoing.
