Laura Lynch’s death could result in serious charges for the driver involved in the crash that killed the Dixie Chicks founder.
The singer, 65, died in a head-on automobile accident December 23 near Cornudo, Texas, about 70 miles east of El Paso.
According to TMZ, officers want to know if the driver of the other vehicle was operating under the influence at the time of the deadly collision and have begun an investigation for possible criminal charges.
Texas Department of Public Safety Public Information Officer Sgt. Eliot Torres told the outlet blood had been drawn from the other driver at the hospital and they were waiting for a subpoena to have the results released.
In Texas, the limit is .08 for non-commercial drivers, and .04 for those with a commercial license.

Depending on the outcome of the blood tests, the driver could face a variety of charges that could result in decades behind bars and thousands of dollars in fines.
The singer founded the Dixie Chicks in 1988 with Robyn Lynn Macy, 65, and sisters Emily Strayer, 51, and Martie Maguire, 54. Lynch played bass and sang.
The group released two albums, Thank Heavens for Dale Evans in 1990 and Little Ol’ Cowgirl in 1992 and played at at President Bill Clinton’s 1993 inauguration
She was asked to leave the group in 1995, and was replaced by Natalie Maines, 49.
After leaving the group, she earned a living as a public relations officer with the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, according to The Star-Telegram.
On learning of her passing, her fellow bandmates paid tribute to the artist, sharing a video the original foursome singing their trademark ‘cowgirl music.’
‘We are shocked and saddened to learn of the passing of Laura Lynch, a founding member of The Chicks. We hold a special place in our hearts for the time we spent playing music, laughing and traveling together,’ the shared.
‘Laura was a bright light…her infectious energy and humor gave a spark to the early days of our band,’ they wrote. ‘Laura had a gift for design, a love of all things Texas and was instrumental in the early success of the band.

Lynch will be honored in a memorial service in El Paso on January 6, according to an obituary in The El Paso Times . She is survived by her daughter and two grandsons, as well as several siblings and extended family members
