Thank you for joining us!

Well, that about brings us to a close here on the live coverage!

Thank you for joining us, especially those of you who were up at 5am to follow along from the start – I saulte you!

It’s been a historic day in F1 as Verstappen joins Fangio, Schumacher, Vettel and Hamilton as a four-in-a-row champion, while there was a nother record made by Russell as we saw seven drivers win multiple races for the first time ever.

We hope you enjoyed the race as much as we did, and we’ll see you again in Qatar next weekend!

Verstappen already starting the party

Well, it didn’t take long for the party to start, seemingly!

Verstappen could be seen with a can of Heineken in hand while talking to Sky Sports F1.

Those of us watching from the UK might be a little alarmed given it’s still only 9.17 in the morning, but in fairness over in Vegas it’s just gone 1am – still very much party time by Sin City standards!

09:11

Verstappen is 'hungry' for more

He’s alredy made it four in a row, but Verstappen isn’t done just yet.

The Red Bull driver has promised that he is still hungry for more, although he will find a fired up Norris raring to go tow-to-toe with his rival once again next year, while a Ferrari with Lewis Hamilton at the helm will not want to settle for second place either.

Here’s some more of what Verstappen had to say after the race!

09:04

'Vegas babbyyyy!'

Think it’s safe to say Russell is a fan of Vegas after tonight/this morning…

09:00

Look what it means to Max!

For anyone who thinks that it might get boring being on the top of the world for so long, just look at these images.

Look what it means to him! He joins true bona fide F1 immortals Fangio, Schumacher, Vettel and Hamilton as a fellow four-in-a-row champion.

Verstappen squashes rumours

There were remarkably rumours at the start of the season linking Verstappen to a move away.

But the Dutch driver has seemingly silenced such talk after sealing title No 4 in Vegas, claiming there’s ‘definitely’ nothing on his mind other than being part of his team.

For me I’m just very proud to be part of the team and we are now celebrating our fourth world title together.

There’s definitely nothing on my mind. Nothing else on my mind.

08:50

Verstappen gets the 'GOAT' treatment online

As you’d expect, there’s been a whole lot of love for Verstappen on social media this morning.

Naturally, ‘GOAT’ crops up a fair amount, and after this season it’s pretty hard to argue he’s not at the higher end of the top 10 drivers to ever get behind the wheel in an F1 car.

For more on that one, you can check out the link below!

08:45

Russell: 'It's going to be a good party!'

And of course, being in Vegas and all, you’d expect there’s going to be one heck of a party in the Mercedes camp.

Toto Wolff was on the radio to toast his driver’s win, and admitted that there may be a change of plans in order to stay in Sin City another night and enjoy the collective fruits of their labours.

As for Russell, he’s had a ‘dream of a weekend’ and more than deserves to let his hair down tonight, though he’ll likely have an eye on the two remaining races of the season to come.

It’s going to be a good party, I was planning on flying in a couple of hours but I’m definitely not getting on that flight. I’m going to enjoy this evening with all my team.

It’s been a dream of a weekend I don’t know how we’ve been so quick but I’m just riding this wave right now.

Vegas is just crazy place and when you’re driving and you see all of this in the background, I can’t describe this place and to get victory here, pole position and a dominant weekend, one-two with Lewis as well, we couldn’t have chosen a better place to make this happen.

Russell was in control from lights out

And now for the race-winner Russell’s post-race comments.

He’ll know that the spotlight is naturally on Verstappen, as it really should be, but he will look back at the race and know that that was one of his best performances to date in F1.

He controlled from the get-go, and barring a furious assault from Leclerc inside the opening five laps or so, nobody could really lay a glove on him.

I was just waiting for something to happen, the two races I’ve been on pole before it’s always been chaos, rain, dry, always something happening, last race in Brazil with the red flag there is always something happening.

I was feeling confident and I had a good gap but I was just waiting for something to happen and it didn’t, so I guess luck has turned and I’m so happy right now.

Norris: 'The race was pretty pants'

Midway through this season it looked like we were in for yet another Verstappen-dominated campaign.

For Red Bull fans that’s about as much as you’d want to see, but for those fans maybe new to the sport, you can understand the frustration at a lack of jeopardy.

But then McLaren and Norris turned up, and threatened one of the sport’s greatest comebacks as he seemed set to push Verstappen to the wire.

To his monumental credit, he took it to the final three races, but in the end the Red Bull romped to the title tonight/this morning, and Norris was clearly a little crestfallen after the race.

Congrats to Max. Knowing the championship is 100 per cent over, we always had a little hope inside but he drove an incredible season.

When he had the quickest car, he dominated, when he didn’t, he was still there and always in my heels.

He made my life tough. We made his tough I’m sure at times. But he drove a better season and of course a big congrats to him. That’s the main thing.

The race was pretty pants. Bad pace, bad grip, bad tyre management, just a poor weekend from us.

08:31

Hamilton: 'We don't know why we were so quick!'

We mentioned Hamilton’s comments after the race there; here’s his interview with Terry Crewes and Jenson Button, which still sounds weird no matter how many times you say it, but that’s Vegas!

Firstly congrats to Max winning the championship, still with several races to go. If I’d done my job yesterday it would have been a breeze today. But its okay, I had fun coming from tenth and the team did a fantastic job.

We don’t know why we were quick this weekend but that’s the best the car has ever felt. So I’m grateful to be a part of getting to that point.

It’s not the climate, its just that the race is so late. you’re going to bed at five, 6am and starting the day much later which is quite difficult, you don’t get much sun and it messes with your rhythm. Otherwise its so cold, maybe the reason why we did so well was because it was cold.

If the car drives like that in the next couple of races then I think we’ll be in a good spot to challenge the guys up front. The championship’s done, so now it’s just all out, fight for the best positions possible.

08:29

Driver of the day?

Russell was nigh on imperious throughout the race, romping to a secone win of the season, while Verstappen of course took the title home, but who was our driver of the day?

I’m going for Hamilton, who recovered from a poor qualifying performance to finish in P2 after a P10 start.

He absolutely hoovered up the fastest lap times throughout the race, only to have the extra point pinched at the close by Norris, and just put his foot down and gunned it for 15 laps to draw so near to Russell, but it wasn’t quite enough.

He mentioned after the race that it was the best the car had ever felt – and boy did it look quick out there!

'This season has taught me a lot of lessons'

Verstappen is used to this by now, and at this point there’s not a lot he hasn’t already said after being asked how it feels to be a world champion, this being his fourth in a row in case you didn’t know.

But this has probably been the hardest of the four since that dramatic first clinched in Abu Dhabi in such puulsating circumstances.

As such, he’s been a little more pensieve about his achievements this time round, as he revealed after the race:

I was just happy to be there [racing] and dreaming of potential victories and standing on the podium, just normal things that are already very difficult to achieve.

We then just got onto that run of a tough few years where we kept trying and then we hit the ground running with the new concept.

It was a very challenging season, also as a person at times it was very challenging and I had to be calm. In a way I still prefer last season, I enjoyed it a lot but I think this season it has taught me a lot of lessons.

I am very proud of us as a team and in a way that makes it a very special and beautiful season.

08:11

Some more history thanks to Russell

Again, tonight/this morning is all about Verstappen, but Russell made another piece of history out there.

For the first time ever we’ve had seven drivers win more than one race in a single season!

08:06

FOUR-nomenal Verstappen

You get the feeling there’s going to be a lot of these puns, but in fairness FOUR-nomenal isn’t that bad…

08:00

Top 10

Here’s how the rest of the Top 10 finished, with Norris coming home in sixth and Leclerc taking fourth.

Horner: Verstappen is 'amongst the greats'

As you’d expect, Christian Horner is full of praise for his star driver on this historic night for the Dutchman.

It’s incredible, he’s [Max Verstappen] done an amazing job, he’s been outstanding all year and we are just very proud of him, he’s driven brilliantly.

He’s won eight grand prixs, he’s won the world championship with two races to go, you can’t ask for more than that.

He just gets in the car and he delivers, he’s a great human. It puts him amongst the greats, statistics now put him there as well.

He’s only just turned 27 and he’s in the form of his life so as long as we can keep giving him a decent car then he will keep delivering.

Historic Hamilton

Talk about legends of the sport – Hamilton is taking his place on a podium at a 36th different circuit.

Hamilton is absurd.

'As a team we kept it together'

Max Verstappen is now talking to Terry Crewes and Jensen Button against the stunning backdrop of the iconic Bellagio.

I guess it’s testament to just what a legend of the sport Verstappen is that he’s used to this feeling by now, and looks remarkably composed for a man that’s just won a fourth world title on the bounce.

It’s been a long season and we started amazing, we were cruising then we had a tough run.

As a team we kept it together and worked on improvements. We’ve got to be proud of everyone for what they’ve done for me.

Standing here as a four time champion is something I never thought was possible!

And will he be celebrating?

I’m very thirsty!

Make of that what you will…

'A true great of this sport'

The congratulations have already begun to drip in as you’d expect, with Stefano Domenicali leading the way.

I want to congratulate Max on an incredible season and his fourth world title.

He is a true great of this sport and has so much more to look forward to in his impressive career.

This season has been thrilling and 2025 looks set to be even closer.

Congratulations Max and congratulations to all the team at Red Bull.

Impeccable timing from Verstappen

Verstappen’s timing is just impeccable.

If you’re going to win the world championship, you couldn’t have hoped for a better destination for your celebrations than Vegas, could you?

George Russell has just said about as much to Terry Crewes as he goes through his own post-match interview, promising he won’t be on his scheduled flight in just a few hours…

07:40

The first of many celebrations

Here’s the moment that Verstappen crossed the line and the celebrations began

07:38

Your chariot awaits, Mr Champion

Two massive Rolls Royces arrive on track to transport the drivers back to the podium at the Bellagio, where you’d imagine there’s going to be an awful lot of champagne thrown at Verstappen.

Verstappen gets his own solo ride, while Russell, Sainz and Hamilton are packed into the other.

I say packed into, but the back of that car is about the size of my house, so they’re not exactly struggling for breathing space…

07:33

'We pulled through'

Some more from Max…

Oh my god what a season, four times, thank you guys.

It’s a little more difficult than last year, but we pulled through. Thank you so much guys.

07:31

'I never thought this was possible!'

We more or less knew it was coming from about the 20th lap in Las Vegas, but it’s official.

Verstappen is the 2024 world champion!

I never thought this was possible, but thanks to you guys!

Breaking:RUSSELL WINS THE LAS VEGAS GP!

George Russell takes the chequered flag and wins the Las Vegas GP!

07:25

Lap 50/50

Here we go then, final lap!

Russell is flying towards a chequered flag that is being waved by Sylvester Stallone no less.

Verstappen has 29s on Norris, who went into the pit to try and get that bonus point for fastest lap currently being held by Hamilton.

But it’s all about these final few laps for Verstappen, who is about to write his name into history.

LAS VEGAS, NEVADA - NOVEMBER 23: Sylvester Stallone waves the chequered flag during the F1 Grand Prix of Las Vegas at Las Vegas Strip Circuit on November 23, 2024 in Las Vegas, Nevada. (Photo by Chris Graythen/Getty Images)

07:23

Lap 49/50

Hamilton’s front-right is seemingly graining, which would explain the late let up in his pursuit of Russell.

His team-mate is now 6.693s ahead and looks set to take the chequered flag in first place.

You do feel for him, though, given all the eyes will be on the driver in fifth-place as it stands.

07:20

Lap 47/50

Leclerc takes Verstappen up the inside as we enter the final three and a bit laps and now it’s Verstappen in fifth and Norris in sixth.

The lead is just one place – but then the Red Bull star has built up a healthy margin over Norris to around 10s.

With not too long to go, the title looks well and truly won by Verstappen as things stand.

07:18

Lap 45/50

We’re fast approaching the business end of this excellent, exhilerating race.

Hamilton is now 5.2s from Russell as his seemingly inexorable progress is stifled somewhat, but we’re still set for a brilliant climax to this race.

Here’s your top five as we head into the final five laps…

1. Russell

2. Hamilton +5.069s

3. Sainz +9.684s

4. Verstappen +1.063s

5. Leclerc +0.372

07:13

Lap 43/50

Sainz makes the move, and takes Verstappen’s third-place spot and gets himself on the podium.

Leclerc looks to follow suit, but this time Verstappen holds on.

A little further up the field, and Hamilton has cut the lead to just over 5s after another blistering lap – 1:35.4!

Norris still around 13s behind Verstappen, and at the moment it’s a fourth title in a row for Verstappen…

07:10

Lap 41/50

Leclerc has fought his way back into this race and briefly snatches the fastest lap off Hamilton – who is bearing down on Russell – and the Ferrari’s are drawing very close indeed to Verstappen.

But the Red Bull driver is so relaxed, or at least he sounds it, as he asks his team if it’s worth trying to keep the Ferraris behind him.

Do you want me to try and keep them behind?

I think you should, yeah

Even if the two Ferraris pass him, he’s got about 14 seconds on Norris.

07:07

Lap 39/50

It looks like Sainz is going to escape unscathed from that pit lane incident a few laps ago.

Perez, meanwhile, pulls off a beautiful overtake jostling for position with Magnussen and Lawson, taking out both of his rivals on the inside as the other two were more focused on one another.

It was extremely tight, the three of thm going into the corner almost side-by-side-by-side, but Perez sneaks it through unscathed.

07:04

Lap 37/50

Hamilton is hurtling around in Las Vegas and has cut the gap to 8.9s to Russell at the front of the race.

Verstappen though has so far done exactly what he needs to do, but you’ve got to say he’s not exactly had a lot of opposition.

The McLarens are down in sixth and seventh with Norris ahead, around 15s behind Verstappen, who looks happy just to do his own thing, and who’d blame him?

ANOTHER fastest lap from Hamilton – the rate he’s going, could be a very interesting finish for Mercedes to negotiate…

06:58

Lap 33/50

Russell, flying out in first, goes in to pit.

Out he comes STILL flying out in first, after building up a 32s gap to second place, currently occupied by his team-mate Hamilton.

It’s looking like a one-two for Mercedes at the moment with Hamilton absolutely flying round the course, but all eyes are on Verstappen as he bears down on title No 4.

06:56

Lap 32/50

Hamilton is having a very good race so far, and has the fastest lap at the moment.

He’s closing in on Verstappen, who is just 0.6s ahead of him.

Verstappen – who is currently on course to finish the race 71 points clear of Norris – doesn’t really want to have to be worrying about what’s happening on his tail, but it’s not really his race tonight.

And Hamilton capitalises, passing the Dutchman in an incident-free move down the straight, on his way to ANOTHER fastest lap at around 1:36.4s.

Impressive stuff from the soon-to-be Ferrari man.

06:52

Lap 30/50

Hamilton is not the only one unhappy about the late decision to keep Sainz out on track.

There will be a few replays of that incident at race control, you can be sure, but Sainz himself has given his team a bit of a warning on the mic.

Wake up guys, come on!

In his defence, he had been asking to be pitted for a long time, before finally being called in on lap 29

06:50

Lap 29/50

Risky move from Ferrari.

With Hamilton breathing down the neck of his future team-mate Leclerc, who is in turn right on the tail of Sainz, Ferrari make the call to pit the Spanish driver.

But Sainz at the very last second stays out after an extremely late call, but it did look like he had crossed the line into the pit line before veering back out.

Hamilton is not happy, as he heads into the pits, along with Verstappen, who loses a second as he goes wide around one corner as he struggles with grip.

Another DNF

Looks like we’ve got another retirement on the cards.

Albon is being called in despite a strong showing that has the Williams driver in 10th, as he joins Gasly with another early finish.

Piastri and Alonso have both come back in for second pit stops, and it sounds like Sainz is keen on a two-stop strategy, too.

06:45

Lap 25/50

So a little update on the top five as we reach the halfway point…

1. Russell (Mercedes)

2. Verstappen +10.150 (Red Bull)

3. Sainz +2.245 (Ferrari)

4. Leclerc +1.025 (Ferrari)

5. Hamilton +1.037 (Mercedes)

06:43

Lap 24/50

The McLarens have really not been too competitive out there so far, Norris down in sixth and about 5s behind Hamilton, while Piastri is down in eighth – although the n did have that five-second penalty, of course.

Interestingly though at the top the lead has remained consistent for Russell from Verstappen over the last few laps.

The Brit, after securing a fourth career pole, has looked strong throughout so far, and now has about 9.9 seconds on Verstappen, though his race is really being run between himself and Norris.

06:40

Max Verstappen looks 'assured' of fourth title

Looks as if Max Verstappen is assured of his fourth world title. Four on the trot. Lewis Hamilton has done that and so has Sebastian Vettel.

He will be taken in a Rolls Royce Phantom to the Ballagio, so I am told. A strange choice of car for America?

06:36

Gasly is OUT

We’ve had our first DNF of the race, as Gasly succumbs to that apparent engine issue and finishes his race early after such a promising performance in qualifying.

06:34

Lap 19/50

Perez was holding onto second spot for a while but making more or less no inroads on Russell’s lead.

It looked like he was struggling with grip, and it isn’t long before Verstappen assumes control of the pursuit.

He’s currently about 9.8s behind Russell, with the Ferrari duo in third and fourth, not too far behind him.

It’s all happening out in Vegas.

06:30

Lap 16/50

Gasly is not a happy man out there.

He’s frantically shouting down the mic that he’s got no power, but there’s nothing registering for his team back at race control.

But it looks like things are going from bad to worse, and he’s got what seems to be engine trouble as he makes for the pit.

06:28

Lap 15/50

Hamilton hands the lead back to his team-mate as he too enters the pits, with Russell leading from Perez and Verstappen.

He seems not too happy at where he’s come out, in seventh between Norris and Magnussen, but his team are quick on the mic to tell him that he might have been another five places back had they timed it slightly differently.

What the hell man? How many places have I just lost?

06:27

Lap 13/50

In goes Russell, to hand the lead to his team-mate Hamilton.

Verstappen’s timing isn’t too great, as he comes back out onto the track in a bit of traffic, finding himself in fourth place as the filling in a Hulkenberg-Sainz sandwich.

It’s a bit early, but as it stands, Verstappen is going to make it four in a row…

06:22

Lap 11/50

Sainz is next into the pit as Verstappen moves up to second, but he’s still 8.6s behind ledaer Russell.

Piastri picked up a five second penalty after what was ruled to be a false start at lights out, and heads into the pits where he serves his time.

Verstappen is now being called into the pits too as we approach the quarter-of-the-way mark.

06:19

Has Leclerc gone too early?

Well did Leclerc go too early?

It looks like it – he’s already headed into the pit after dropping back into fourth.

Verstappen has made headway and is up in third in behind Sainz in second, while Norris is next into the pit, along with Albon and Stroll.

Hamilton has been busy early on, and is now up into fifth and is closing in on Gasly in fourth.

06:15

Lap 7/50

After an excellent early battle between the top two, Leclerc has backed off just a little and the gap is down to about 2s.

There appears to be a little bit of debris on the left hand side of Russell’s car, but it’s nothing too major and can probably last until the pit stop.

Hamilton has passed Hulkenburg and tries to take Piastri too, but the n holds on for now…

06:11

Lap 5/50

As I say that, Verstappen gets past Gasly and is up unto fourth.

Leclerc is really pushing Russell now, and the two are side-by-side at one point, but the Brit holds firm and just about keeps his nose ahead.

Alonso is already in the pit, and Piastri has been noted for a false start.

It’s all happening.

06:10

Lap 4/50

So four laps in and Leclerc and Russell are already locked in a fascinating battle.

The Mercedes had stretched to just over a second ahead of the Ferrari but Leclerc has cut the deficit to about three tenths as the top two exchange fastest laps early on.

Verstappen is still in fifth, about a second ahead of Norris in sixth.

06:06

Fantastic start for Russell!

Russell starts brilliantly and holds onto his lead going into the first corner, but it’s Charles Leclerc who makes the move.

The Ferrari driver takes both Perre Gasly and Sainz before the first bend.

Verstappen and Norris are side by side, but there is no overtake.

Perez is locked in a brilliant battle with Alonso, Albon and Magnussen towards the back, but has dropped one place to 16th, while Alonso is up two into 14th.

Breathless start.

Away we go!

Here we go!

Out go the lights and we’re away in Las Vegas!

Formation lap

Right it’s formation lap time, as George Russell leads the pack out for one last trip round the track to familiarise themselves with what is still a very new addition to the F1 roster.

Almost all of them are on the hards.

Sergio Perez, Valtteri Bottas and Franco Colapinto are on the hards, and Fernando Alonso is the only one who’s gone for the soft tyres.

A kaleidoscope of excitement on the grid

With the lights in Sin City, it’s a real kaleidoscope of colours out there with all the liveries and the bodies milling about on the grid.

There’s 12 MILLION light bulbs shining out in Vegas tonight, according to Sky…

Just a few minutes to go now!

05:54

Horner EXCLUSIVE interview

We’ve got just under 10 minutes to go – which is more than emough time to enjoy Mail Sport’s exceptional exclusive interview with Red Bull chief Christian Horner from earlier this week.

Horner talks all about the support from his wife, how he can achieve true catharsis this year, and his fued with Toto Wolff.

Check it out below!

05:52

Can Verstappen join an exclusive club today?

Fangio. Schumacher. Vettel. Hamilton. Verstappen?

The Red Bull icon can become only the fifth driver ever to win four straight F1 world championships today.

He’s 62 ahead with just two more races after today – as long as he goes into Qatar with a lead of at least 60 points, the crown will be his.

Will he do it?

05:49

Anthem time

Boyz II Men are up next as they give a very impressive three-way acapella performance of the US national anthem.

There’s also a strong musical presence as you’d imagine on the grid, with Public Enemy icon Flava Flav out there too.

And yes – he is wearing a massive bejewelled clock.

05:44

A ROCKY start

I guess you could say it’s been a ROCKY grid walk this morning…

I can only apologise.

05:43

Sylvester Stallone's up next

Sylvester Stallone jokes that he would have been racing this morning if it wasn’t for a ‘bad ankle’.

Brundle responds: ‘Oh, I’m sorry to hear about that.’

Peak grid walk.

05:42

Noah Lyles is on track

Here we go, vintage Brundle.

After bumping into Paul Mescal he find himself face-to-face to the fastest man in the world Noah Lyles.

After introducing himself to the sprinter, a very loud Lyles shouts in his face that he can’t hear him as one of the cars picks exactly the right moment to start up and rev the engine.

Franco Colapinto is up next, who reassures that he is ‘a bit sore but ok’ after a nasty crash in qualifying.

05:40

Grid walk time

Well I’m not sure that Martin Brundle has ever received a similar introduction to his grid walk as Bruce Buffer delcares him the greatest in the world in a truly bizarre set up you’d only see in Vegas.

We’ve already had the obligatory awkward exhanges from Martin, an icon in his own right, who has got his mic tangled up with a passerby and lost his camera.

He’s amazingly made it all the way through a melee of bodies without finding a single driver to chat to, but Hollywood producer Jerry Bruckheimer comes to the rescue to talk Martin through Brad Pitt’s escapades last night to save us all.

05:34

Decent view

Not too shabby, huh?

This was the aerial view ahead of practice a couple of nights ago, and it’s not a bad one is it?

05:31

Vegas bringing the star power

As you’d imagine, the big names are out in their droves this morning.

We’ve already seen Gladiator stars Paul Mescal and Pedro Mescal chatting to Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz on Sky’s coverage about everything down to the amount of torque drivers experience pulling away at lights out.

We’ve even had Brad Pitt out and about around the track during qualifying, w ith the Hollywood A-lister ‘fainting’ while filming some stunts for his upcoming movie.

And then there are the casual fans; so far we’ve had model Winnie Harlow, musician supreme John Legend and acting legend Terry Crewes in and around the paddock in the last hour or so.

With such a roster of famous faces, you fear for Martin Brundle who will have a busy, busy evening with his grid walk…

05:25

Spectacular Sin City

Even the flags have been given the Vegas treatment!

And look at all those lights! It’s a new course on the grid, but you can’t deny it’s already making a spectacular splash.

Did we expect anything remotely verging on traditional from Vegas?

05:20

What happened in qualifying?

Well we’ve mentioned the podium-sitters heading into the race this evening – or morning depending on wherever you’re watching! – but how did qualifying play out?

Well the first couple of practice sessions were dominated by Lewis Hamilton after a horror show at Interlagos, before his team-mate came out fastest by just 0.098s in quali.

But how did those three sessions play out yesterday, I hear you asking? Well you can take a look at the link below!

05:16
