Alert – Labor Day love from Hollywood as stars celebrate the last of summer with bikini selfies and beach parties

Labor Day is a federal holiday in the United States celebrated on the first Monday of September.

The holiday honors the American labor movement in the United States. Labor Day is called the ‘unofficial end of summer’ because it marks the end of the U.S. culture’s nominal summer season.

It is also a day when stars like to strip off to their bathing suits and have fun at barbecues and beaches from sea to shining sea.

Sometimes they post images of the American flag to Instagram or look back at the great summer they had with their family.

Here is a look at some of the more fun posts where celebrities enjoyed the first day in September.

The entertainer, 37, who revealed she froze her eggs earlier this year, appeared to be taking part in a friend’s wedding weekend.

The Dancing with the Stars alum’s blonde hair was styled in a sleek bob, and appeared to be wearing natural looking makeup. 

The doting auntie was seen hanging out and looking at the waves with a young friend.

The little one was adorably dressed in a long sleeve blue and white stripped onesie jumpsuit and a sun hat.

Hough’s plus one for the weekend was her dog Sunny, who arrived in style in mom’s large shoulder bag.  

Other photos showed the bride-to-be and another friend posing with Hough on a beach blanket. 

Another snap featured the Footloose actress dressed in black tank top and pants.

She posed for the selfie next to a large suitcase, sharing that she was headed to ‘NYC’ for the ‘DWTS cast reveal.’  

Hough will return to the popular ABC show as a host, alongside longtime favorite Alfonso Ribeiro.

Hough won the competition twice as a choreographer on the series. 

Meanwhile, her brother Derek, 40, who has won the competition six times, will return as a judge alongside Carrie Ann Inaba and Bruno Tonioli.

Jan Ravnik, who gained worldwide recognition as a dancer on Taylor Swift’s Eras tour, joins the cast as professional coach.

This comes after Paltrow said she doesn’t think people will ‘understand’ her until she is ‘dead’.

The actress and wellness guru is baffled by the ‘narrative’ surrounding her persona because she often has ‘no idea’ why people have drawn

certain conclusions about her and she finds some aspects of her public image hurtful.

Speaking in a teaser clip for her appearance on The Cutting Room Floor podcast, she said: ‘No one will understand me until I’m dead.

‘I have never created my own narrative. I’m aware that that exists.

‘But I have had a really strange life in this respect. Like, imagine being an actual person and know that people are characterizing you in a way and you can’t understand how they arrived at that narrative. I have no idea who people are talking about.

‘I’ve lived for many decades now with this avatar that’s, like, projected on very very strongly, and I don’t know why.

Although the Goop founder – who has two children with ex-husband Chris Martin and is married to Brad Falchuk – has been keen to correct people’s misconceptions she is now trying to just move past worrying about her public image.

She added: ‘You want to say, ‘But this is not true,’ or, ‘I never said that,’ but lately I’ve been really trying to almost meditate on this idea of, if you could get to the stage where you could really let go of trying to correct misperception, what could that do?’

While the leggy star kept tight lipped if she is dating anyone currently, she did disclose she isn’t a fan of dating apps.

In the candid interview, the Hollywood actress – who tries to keep her relationships under wraps – admitted she feels ‘self-conscious’ to go on dating apps.

She said: ‘I was always in relationships when the [dating] apps started. Now, I just don’t know. I feel a bit self-conscious.

A majority of the comments were reacting to the snapshot showing off her pert behind and her slim waist.

Some gushed over her ‘timeless beauty’ while others called her ‘wifey material.’

Her post comes shortly after she put on an unrecognizable display during a photoshoot, in which she transformed her look by wearing a wig. 

In mid-August, she drew a striking resemblance to Angelina Jolie in the 2010 action-mystery movie Salt while on set of a shoot.

Alternative accounts of the event’s origin exist. Descendants of two men with similar last names claim their great-grandfather was the true father of the holiday

According to one early history of Labor Day, the event originated in connection with a General Assembly of the Knights of Labor convened in New York City in September 1882.

An alternative theory maintains that the idea of Labor Day was the brainchild of Peter J. McGuire, a vice president of the Federation of Organized Trades and Labor Unions, which was a predecessor of the American Federation of Labor. 

After a visit to Toronto where he saw parades celebrating labor that May, had put forward the initial proposal in the spring of 1882.

According to McGuire, on May 8, 1882, he made a proposition to the fledgling Central Labor Union in New York City that a day be set aside for a ‘general holiday for the laboring classes’.

In 1909, the American Federation of Labor convention designated the Sunday preceding Labor Day as ‘Labor Sunday’, to be dedicated to the spiritual and educational aspects of the labor movement.

This secondary date failed to gain significant traction in popular culture, although some churches continue to acknowledge it.

In 1887, Oregon became the first state of the United States to make Labor Day an official public holiday. 

By 1894, thirty U.S. states were already officially celebrating Labor Day. In that year, shortly after the Pullman Strike, the Congress passed a bill recognizing the first Monday of September as Labor Day and making it an official federal holiday. President Grover Cleveland signed the bill into law on June 28.

 The federal law, however, only made it a holiday for federal workers. 

Since the mid-1950s, the United States has celebrated Loyalty Day and Law Day on May 1. 

Unlike Labor Day, neither are legal public holidays (in that government agencies and most businesses do not shut down to celebrate them) and therefore have remained relatively obscure. Loyalty Day is formally celebrated in a few cities, while some bar associations hold Law Day events to celebrate the rule of law.

In the United States, many school districts resume classes around the Labor Day holiday weekend (see First day of school). 

In U.S. sports, Labor Day weekend marks the beginning of many fall sports. 

National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) teams usually play their first games that weekend, and the National Football League (NFL) traditionally play their kickoff game the Thursday following Labor Day.

In the fashion world, Labor Day was once considered the last day it was acceptable to wear white or seersucker.

The source of the tradition lies in part with the migration of wealthy 19th century New Yorkers back from their summer-home Newport Mansions and accompanying change back from summer clothes.

New York offers the Labor Day Carnival, and fireworks over Coney Island.

In Washington, one popular event is the Labor Day Concert at the U.S. Capitol featuring the National Symphony Orchestra with free attendance.
