A member of the Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua detained as part of an ICE raid had been attempting to buy grenades, according to authorities.
Anderson Zambrano-Pacheco, 25, was apprehended by authorities in New York City on Tuesday morning.
Speaking with Fox News on Wednesday, the new Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said he had been in the process of acquiring hand grenades.
Noem described him as a ‘ringleader’, telling the outlet: ‘He had just been a part of a gun weapons exchange and was trying to buy grenades.
‘Why would anybody in this country need to buy a grenade and go out and perpetuate violence?
‘He was one of those involved in Colorado, and we are so thankful we got him off the streets.’
Pacheco was wanted for a host of charges out of Aurora, Colorado, linked to the gang’s takeover of multiple apartment complexes in the city last year.
Noem had been present in the Big Apple when officers arrested him while inside a Bronx apartment. He was charged with kidnapping, assault and burglary.

Noem said in her post that: ‘Dirtbags like this will continue to be removed from our streets.
‘We are doing this right – doing exactly what President Trump promised the American people – making our streets safe.’
On Wednesday, the DEA shared footage of them storming the apartment complexes that Zambrano-Pacheco had been linked with.
The DEA has been conducting operations in the Denver area as they target undocumented criminals with criminal records.
Drug Enforcement Administration officials found 49 people inside a makeshift nightclub on Sunday morning – 41 of which were undocumented migrants.
Federal officials said some of those detained were associated with the gang which has been terrorizing the neighborhood.
Trump said last year that apartments in Aurora had been taken over by members of the Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua, which was refuted by city officials.

Officers have begun storming properties across the country in sanctuary cities like New York as part of Trump’s mass deportation scheme.
Sanctuary cities including New York have been a haven for migrants who flock to them in the knowledge that officials there limit cooperation with immigration agents.
Many have arrived by bus and plane from the southern border, with New York alone welcoming around 210,000 migrants in less than two years.
The president has since said he ‘might have to consider’ pulling funding to sanctuary cities, which include the likes of Chicago, Los Angeles and Philadelphia.
On Wednesday he unveiled plans to house 30,000 illegal migrants inside Guantanamo Bay.
The U.S. military base in Cuba has historically been used to hold terror suspects since 9/11 and current detainees include the accused mastermind of the attack.
Using it for migrants is the latest symbolic move in Trump’s unprecedented crackdown on illegal migration that began the moment he entered office last week.
Trump said the facility with 30,000 beds will be used to keep the ‘worst of the worst’ migrants under lock and key, and noted how ‘tough’ it is to escape.
