Kristen Bell has revealed the very bizarre way that her husband Dax Shepard wooed her in when they first met – by taking a piece of gum from her mouth and putting it in his.
The actress, 43, and the Punk’d alum, 49, have been married for more than a decade and share two kids together – and now, Kristen has opened up about the unconventional way that they connected at first.
She spoke about it during a recent appearance on Sirius XM’s Where Everybody Knows Your Name with Ted Danson & Woody Harrelson (Sometimes) – and it turns out, a piece of chewing gum is to thank for their union.
Kristen explained on the podcast that she and Dax first crossed paths at a mutual friend’s birthday dinner in 2004, and that her first impression of him was not the best.
She described him as overly ‘chatty’ and said they had ‘no chemistry’ – but all of that changed when they ran into each other at a hockey game in 2007, and he made a very bold move.

The Frozen star said Dax asked her for a piece of gum but when she revealed she didn’t have any left – he proceeded to take the piece from her mouth and put it in his.
As unsanitary as that sounds, she admitted that the interaction left her ‘totally smitten’ with the actor.
‘[Canadian producer] Shauna Robertson introduced us,’ shared the mom-of-two during the interview.
‘[I knew] Shauna from when she had produced Forgetting Sarah Marshall. And she had a ton of interactions with Dax through the comedy world. They were very close.
‘[We were both invited] to Shauna’s birthday party in 2004 at a little sushi restaurant. All I remember from that night was, “That guy from [Punk’d] talks so much. Woah he’s chatty.” We had no chemistry that night.’
Kristen explained that she then noticed him at a Detroit Kings hockey game years later with one of their mutual friends, named Michael.
‘I had just gotten out of a relationship [with Kevin Mann]. I was fresh on the scene, I was ready to mingle,’ she continued.
‘I didn’t really know Dax but I knew Michael. I was like, “I’m single, I haven’t been single in years, this is gonna be great I’m gonna go over and flirt with Michael.”

‘But Michael was talking to someone else – thank God because it changed my life – so Dax came up to me and I was like, “Oh you were at Shauna’s dinner.”
‘We started talking and I was chewing gum and he said, “Do you have any more gum?”
‘I said, “No, just this,” and I kind of coyly took it out of my mouth. And he grabbed it from me, and he goes, “I’ll take it.”
‘Then he put it in his mouth, and I was like, “This guy wants to f**k me.” [After] that I was absolutely smitten.’
The actress explained that they ‘started hanging out’ after that and it felt ‘like a light switch went off’ that told her, ‘This is it for me.’
But she admitted that Dax felt like things were moving too quickly and broke up with her soon after.
That didn’t last long, however – because four days later, he called her and told her he wanted her back.

‘He had gone on a different date and he said that he had been sitting there with another girl just going, “What am I doing?”‘ she recalled.
‘He called me and said he made a big mistake and that he’d like to try again.’
Kristen said since then, ‘every discovery’ she makes about Dax leaves her ‘more and more impressed.’
‘There’s so much more to Dax, he’s so much deeper of a well than anyone realizes,’ she gushed.
‘He’s so protective, he’s so loyal, he’s curious, he’s constantly researching things to get new perspective, he challenges himself, he’s self critical.’
They wed in 2013 and welcomed two daughters, named Lincoln and Delta, in 2013 and 2014 respectively.
