A woman has been stabbed to death while an urgent search has been launched for a man seen fleeing from the scene.

Emergency services were called to a home along the Great Western Highway at Kingswood, western Sydney, at 1.40pm on Monday.

A 21-year-old woman was found with two stab wounds to her chest.

NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the woman at the scene before she died.

Det. Supt. Trent King of NSW Police told a media conference they are searching for a man in relation to the woman’s death.

The man is described as a 21-year-old of Pacific Islander/Maori appearance, of solid build, wearing a black jumper, pants and beanie and a black and red basketball singlet.

Det. Supt. King said the man was last seen on foot, running from the unit complex.

The woman is yet to be formally identified.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.

A crime scene has been established with detectives launching an investigation.

‘It’s alleged that a 21-year-old male in a domestic relationship with this person is the perpetrator of this incident and had caused those injuries to the female, he is now wanted in relation to her death,’ Det. Supt. King said.

‘Whilst it is considered that this was a targeted incident, I would urge the public if they do see this person or have any information in relation to this person, to contact triple zero in the first instance and not to approach him,’ he said.

‘We do know who he is, however, at this stage, the investigation is very early on, and there are further processes to be completed before I can release any further details in relation to him,’ Det. Supt. King said.

Det. Supt. King said the woman was living in a share house arrangement with other people.

NSW Police said there is no ongoing threat to the public.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
