A deadbeat dad from Kentucky who’s avoided paying child support for ten years was dramatically arrested after getting off a cruise ship in Miami.
Dominic Weaver, 47, was cuffed and taken into custody last week when the ship docked in the Florida port.
He was transported from Miami to the Louisville Metro Department of Corrections where he remains behind bars.
Jefferson County Attorney Mike O’Connell told local affiliate WDRB that Weaver owes roughly $114,000 to $120,000 in unpaid child support for four children.
Police say he has ‘not paid one cent’, and he is also wanted for two undisclosed felonies.
Weaver’s history goes back to 2019 when his name appeared on a list of people delinquent on their child support payments in the local newspaper.
O’Connell’s office posted the names of these deadbeats who skipped out on their child support payments.
‘Our office does everything we can to work with people that have this obligation,’ O’Connell said.
‘I mean everything we can, you know, to the extent of even helping find employment and do things like that.”
At the time, Weaver owned more than 91,000, and was sentenced to five years probation after being convicted of gross nonsupport.
In 2021, that number grew to more than $99,000.
O’Connell told WDRB that he is planning to ask the court to revoke Weaver’s sentence and sentencing to four years in the state penitentiary for this offense.
Weaver is scheduled to be arraigned on Jan. 6, 2025.
