A driver has been killed and another man has been seriously injured in a head-on car crash. 

The collision happened in at Mamre Road, in Kemps Creek in  Sydney’s west around 6am on Friday. 

A hatchback and a ute crashed into each other with one driver killed while another motorist was trapped for almost an hour before emergency services arrived at the scene. 

A spokesperson from the NSW Ambulance service told Daily Mail the man suffered leg, facial, and chest injuries and was treated at the scene by paramedics. 

Fire and Rescue crews were also at the scene.

The man was rushed to Liverpool Hospital in a serious condition. 

Police remain at the scene along with detectives from the Crash Investigations unit. 

Mamre Road has been closed in both directions between Elizabeth Drive and Bakers lane. 

The crash has sparked heavy traffic with motorists urged to avoid the area and use alternative routes including Luddenham Road, Walgrove Road, or the Northern Road.
