Katy Perry has revealed the surprising reaction her fiancé Orlando Bloom had to her plans to go to outer space on one of Jeff Bezos’ rockets.
It emerged Thursday that Perry is joining Bezos’ fiancée Lauren Sanchez and Oprah Winfrey’s best friend Gayle King as part of Blue Origin’s historic all-women crew, which will blast off in the spring of this year.
Many people might be expected to be nervous at the prospect of their romantic partners taking the risk of traveling off the planet.
In 2021, Ashton Kutcher shared that he had bought a ticket for one of Richard Branson’s Virgin Galactic flights – but sold it after his wife Mila Kunis told him ‘it was not a smart family decision to be heading into space when we have young children.’
However Bloom, who has been dating Perry since 2019 and has a four-year-old daughter with her called Daisy Dove, had quite a different response.
Perry explained that Bloom is also ‘all about the journey,’ adding that ‘one thing I really, really admire about him is he’s a seeker,’ on SiriusXM radio.

While discussing her upcoming voyage, Perry was asked whether she felt the need to ‘run things by Orlando before you do them.’
‘Yeah, of course!’ said Perry. ‘It’s always a: “What do you think?” Most definitely, and we respect each other so much, so we wanna get input from each other.’

Perry’s flight will also include NASA rocket scientist Aisha Bowe, as well as civil rights activist Amanda Nguyen and film producer Kerianne Flynn.
The spring launch will mark the 11th human flight for Blue Origin’s New Shepard program.
Lauren, who brought the mission together, expressed her excitement over the upcoming flight in a video shared on Instagram.
‘If someone would have told me that I would be able to go to space one day, I would have definitely laughed,’ she said.
‘I can’t believe it’s happening.
‘My dad used to teach people how to fly and I used to hang around the hanger, and I thought dreaming of becoming a pilot was a huge deal. And this is even bigger!’

She continued: ‘The incredible women that are going on this flight are extraordinary in all of their fields, but more importantly they are incredible storytellers.
‘So, what I’m hoping that this flight is transformative for them but also for all of the people they tell their story to.
‘Hopefully it sparks that imagination to dream big and reach for the stars.’
So far, 52 people have experienced traveling 62 miles above earth to the Kármán line, which is recognized as the spot that separates the planet’s atmosphere from space.
Previous New Shepard passengers include actor William Shatner and Jeff Bezos, founder of both Blue Origin and Amazon.
Viewers were stunned by the unexpected announcement and voiced their reactions on social media.
