alert-–-kansas-city-chiefs-rule-out-star-wide-receiver-marquise-‘hollywood’-brown-for-the-entire-season-in-huge-injury-blowAlert – Kansas City Chiefs rule out star wide receiver Marquise ‘Hollywood’ Brown for the ENTIRE season in huge injury blow

Marquise ‘Hollywood’ Brown has been ruled out for the entirety of the regular season by the Kansas City Chiefs, according to reports.

The wide receiver was one of the Super Bowl champion’s star acquisitions in the offseason, signing a one-year contract after two seasons with the Arizona Cardinals.

He suffered a shoulder injury on his debut during the preseason that now requires surgery, and ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports he will be out until at least January.

The news will come as a huge blow to Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce and Co, as they look to secure the three-peat after back-to-back Super Bowls.

After the game against the Jaguars back in August, Andy Reid revealed it was a ‘sternoclavicular joint dislocation’, and this week the head coach said it would be ‘months rather than weeks’.

And now the $7m-a-year receiver will end the season with just one preseason snap to his name.

ESPN report there is still a chance he could return for the postseason should Kansas City get there, but is not expected back before mid-January.

The injury looks set to ensure rookie Xavier Worthy will see a lot of the ball throughout 2024.

The Chiefs’ wide receiver corps still managed to be productive in the Week 1 28-20 victory over Baltimore in Brown’s absence.

Second-year pro Rashee Rice had seven catches for 103 yards, first-round draft pick Worthy had touchdowns running and receiving, and versatile backup Justin Watson hauled in a 25-yard reception on his only target of the 27-20 victory.

The Chiefs also expect to get more from JuJu Smith-Schuster this week. He was released by the Patriots and had just a couple of practices after re-signing with Kansas City before facing the Ravens, which would have limited the amount of plays that Smith-Schuster would have been able to run.

The Chiefs face the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 2 on Sunday evening.
