A judge has slammed a University of Miami medical professor who has been arrested on charges he trafficked a date-rape drug.

‘He should be so embarrassed being here,’ Miami-Dade Judge Mindy Glazer said as she lectured 44-year-old Dr. Dairon Garcia, who is being held on $15,000 bail after being hit with drug-related charges following his arrest at his apartment on Friday.

‘He’s a medical doctor, going through all those years of education and committing his life to helping people and to get arrested for this – that’s between you, your lawyer and the criminal justice system. Good luck to you, sir,’ Judge Glazer said.

Authorities say they can allegedly link Garcia to a package that was intercepted at Miami International Airport that contained about 15 pounds of gamma-hydroxybutyric acid, or GHB, otherwise known as the date-rape drug, ‘liquid ecstasy’ or ‘coma in a bottle.’

The drug is completely colorless meaning people are often completely unaware they’ve taken it until they are put to sleep hence its disturbing nicknames.

Garcia, who graduated from Duke University, worked as an assistant professor of clinical radiology at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine since 2022.

Police arrested him on Friday at his downtown Miami condo following the discovery of several packages addressed to him.

Investigators had tracked a package from Paris, France that was addressed to a duplex owned by Garcia.

Customs officers intercepted the parcel at the airport on August 29 and then tipped off Miami police who lay in wait at the address on September 12 when it was due to be delivered.

A woman collected the package at which point the address was raided.

She explained to police that Garcia was her landlord and had told her to expect the package and for her to be at home to ‘receive’ it.

Authorities said the woman had text messages to prove it.

The resident said they ‘opened it and observed that it contained plastic bags with liquid inside the package.’

Miami police were tipped off by the US Department of Homeland Security, and staked out the address when the package was delivered on Sept. 12 and picked up from the doorstep by a woman.

While officers were on scene they discovered two other packages had also arrived for Garcia from France at the complex on both September 7 and 25, but to two different apartments within the building.
