A top aide to Los Angeles Councilmember Hugo Soto-Martinez has stepped down after making Holocaust jokes about comedienne Amy Schumer on social media.

Josh Androsky, who has served as a political consultant for at least three of the council’s 15 members, posted a string of comments to X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.

The remarks targeted Schumer, who is Jewish and has spoken out about the Israel-Hamas war, and were captured in a screenshot by Sia Kordestani, an Iranian-Jewish refugee and former member of the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Foreign Affairs.

In the thread, Androsky exchanged messages with the account for the TrueAnon podcast, hosted by Brace Belden and Liz Franczak.

‘Amy Schumer is particularly sensitive to Jewish deaths due to her experience in the holocaust,’ the first post from @TrueAnonPod read.

‘The nazis named a concentration camp after her. It was called Da Cow.’

Josh Androsky, a former high-ranking aide of LA Councilmember Hugo Soto-Martinez, has resigned after making Holocaust jokes about comedienne Amy Schumer

Androsky was responding to a tweet from @TrueAnonPod, a podcast that focuses on left-wing analysis of political issues

Schumer has been an outspoken supporter of Israel since the Israel-Hamas conflict began in earnest on October 7

Androsky responded: ‘this is cute or whatever but it’s f***** up that you would say this about her when you know it was actually Cowschwitz.’

The two accounts had a back-and-forth about a ‘spot on the 5,’ or Intestate 5, a reference – as Kordestani pointed out – to the Harris Cattle Ranch feedlot, the largest producer of beef in California.

‘i called it Cowschwitz!!!’ Androsky’s wrote. ‘either way they all (and Amy) smelled the same.’

The posts were swiftly deleted, but Councilmember Soto-Martinez posted his own statement to X late Friday night.

‘The social media posts made by my staffer earlier today were disturbing and reprehensible,’ he wrote.

‘With antisemitism on the rise in recent years and especially in recent weeks, cracking jokes about the holocaust isn’t just disgusting, it’s dangerous.

‘These antisemitic and misogynistic posts sickened me, and I have accepted his resignation effective immediately.’

‘Please don’t erase my family like they did to the people I am descended from. If it makes you feel better to write hateful things to me go ahead,’ Schumer has said

She has called for an end to the ceasefire on the condition that Jewish hostages are released and shared a message that read: ‘If you scream “genocide” but were silent about the massacre on October 7, you might hate Jews’

Androsky has advised at least three of the city’s 15 councilmembers

Martinez posted a statement to social media condemning the remarks as ‘disturbing and reprehensible’

Soto-Martinez issued a statement Saturday night that read, in part: ‘These antisemitic and misogynistic posts sickened me, and I have accepted his resignation effective immediately’

Androsky’s messages have since been criticized by local leaders including Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass.

‘The anti-Semitic and misogynistic comments made today were reprehensible, disgusting and dangerous and in no way represent the city family,’ Bass said in a statement.

‘Especially now, City Hall must be a beacon of hope, not hate. I’m glad the staffer responsible has resigned.’

Androsky’s account was deactivated on Saturday, but screenshots of his comments are still being spread online.

Androsky has not commented on his posts.

Schumer has been an outspoken supporter of Israel since the Israel-Hamas conflict broke out on October 7.

The Jewish actress recently reposted a message on Instagram calling for a ceasefire in the Middle East, on the condition that Israeli hostages are returned and that Hamas surrenders.

She has been quick to call others out for perceived anti-Semitism and shared a message last week that read: ‘If you scream “genocide” but were silent about the massacre on October 7, you might hate Jews.

‘If you call for a ceasefire but not the release of hostages, you might hate Jews.

‘If you spoke out against Israel’s tragic bombing of the hospital in Gaza, but made no correction once you learned it was actually done by Islamic Jihad, you might hate Jews.’

In a different post, Schumer wrote: ‘I love my brothers and sisters in Gaza. I love Muslims. I love everyone. I’m just begging you to not hate all Jews.

‘Please don’t erase my family like they did to the people I am descended from. If it makes you feel better to write hateful things to me go ahead.’
