Jonathan Ross has begun preparations for his annual lavish Halloween party – famous for welcoming a whole host of celebrities and A-listers.

The broadcaster, 62, puts on the bash in his sprawling family home in leafy Hampstead, London, where star-studded guests dress up in their best spooky outfits.

For two years the party was cancelled – in 2020 due to the Covid pandemic and the following year because his daughter Betty, 32, was struggling with fibromyalgia – but it came back with a bang last October.

However, it was held at Camden nightspot KOKO for the first time instead of Ross’s famous home last year, but has now returned to his family home for the first time in three years.

Preparations were underway once again as enormous pumpkins were seen being carried onto the patio, while various ghoulish structures – including what looked to be a massive forbidding gate – were assembled.

Emotional: The comedian cancelled for a second time after his daughter Betty was diagnosed with fibromyalgia, a long-term disorder characterised by chronic muscle pain

In addition, giant stone walls were carried into the ground to build a fairytale-esque castle with turrets.

Those who have attended in the past include the likes of Rita Ora, Holly Willoughby, Nicole Scherzinger, Alan Carr and Joan Collins.

Last year, Spice Girl Mel C went as Morticia Adams, while Rita dressed up as a very scantily-clad Lisle Von Rhuman from Death Becomes Her.

The famous party returned in 2022 for the first time in two years – after Ross revealed the heartbreaking reason behind the cancellation.

After the party was cancelled for the first time in 2020 due to Covid restrictions, the broadcaster, 62, called it off for a second time the following year for a personal and emotional reason.

The comedian cancelled for a second time after his daughter Betty was diagnosed with fibromyalgia, a long-term disorder characterised by chronic muscle pain.

Betty also has chronic fatigue syndrome and postural tachycardia syndrome (POTS) which causes an abnormal increase in the heart rate after sitting or standing.

Confirming his decision to cancel for the sake of his daughter in 2021, he told Good Morning Britain: ‘One of our children isn’t well… it’s fibromyalgia which is quite debilitating. She’s back home with us and we’re looking after her.’

Ross, whose annual bash is normally a staple of the celebrity calendar, explained that he didn’t feel comfortable throwing the party while she is struggling with the condition and feared any of his guests falling ill from Covid after attending the party, and so decided to cancel the event.

He said: ‘I had a feeling it wasn’t going to be over yet and it does look like the figures are creeping up again. We always have a couple of hundred people to the party and as you know, about half of them are from show business.

Details: Huge giant pumpkins were brought onto the patio to create the festive atmosphere

Spook-tacular: Giant stone walls were carried into the ground to build a fairytale-esque castle with turrets.

Mystery: Several spooky decorations were carried in – including what appeared to be a forbidding gate

Scary! The broadcaster, 62, puts on the bash in his sprawling family home (pictured at the 2014 Halloween party) in leafy Hampstead, London, where star-studded guests dress up in their best spooky outfits

Setting: The party is hosted at Ross’s sprawling Hampstead family home in London

Getting ready: The turret of the ghostly tower was seen on the floor before it took its spooky shape

Spooky: A large cage-like structure could also be seen ready to be assembled, covering in fake cobwebs

Finishing touches: Several men were spotted carrying in boxes and setting up equipment as they prepared for the thrilling party

Eerie: The final effect was of a spooky looking castle entrance ready for the star-studded guests to arrive through later

Jack-o’-lanterns: Fake carved pumpkins were also placed outside to add to the quirky Halloween look

It’s all ready: The fence out front was then draped in fake cobwebs while a black cobwebbed sheet was pulled in front, blocking the view of the house

‘So if there was a breakout would wipe out half the shows on TV, so we don’t want that, we wouldn’t want to be a superspreader event.’

‘She’s upstairs in the bedroom and I thought, ‘I can’t in good conscience have a big loud fun party downstairs and one of my children is locked in a room upstairs. It would be like something out of a horror novel.

‘So really, just out of a good conscience, we’re not going to do it, but hopefully next year we’ll be back.’

He added: ‘My daughter, we thought she had Long Covid but discovered that she had fibromyalgia, so we want to be conscious of that and not have so much noise when she’s upstairs.’

The comedian also shares Harvey, 29, and Honey, 26, with wife Jane Goldman, whom he married in 1988.

In July this year Betty said the world had ‘opened up for her’ since getting a new wheelchair.

Taking to Instagram, Betty shared several snaps of herself trying out her new wheelchair from Distribe Limited.

Alongside the photos, she wrote: ‘Since I bought my wheelchair from Distribe just over a year ago, the world has really opened up for me so drastically and so much more than I’d even thought possible before buying.

Health: Jonathan’s daughter Betty, 32,  suffers from fibromyalgia, a condition which causes pain all over the body

Last year: Rita Ora, Strictly Come Dancing star Oti Mabuse and DJ Ashley James led the way in 2022

‘I’ve been able to go out, make memories, and have adventures, even on some of my worse health days.

‘So much of that comes from how confident I feel in the quality of my chair, knowing that it’s not going to give up on me and leave me stranded!

Betty went on to say that using a wheelchair has had a ‘positive impact’ on her life and also described it as ‘liberating’.

She wrote: ‘I’ve said it on my instagram plenty of times already, but truly having a wheelchair has had such a huge positive impact on my life.

‘I feel really hopeful that in this collaboration with Distribe and being able to share my discount code with you all I might be able to play a small part in helping other people to experience the euphoric and liberating change having the right mobility equipment can bring.’

Last year, Jonathan brought his Halloween party back but he instead hosted it at popular Camden nightspot KOKO rather than the usual location of his sprawling family home.

Stars including scantily clad Rita Ora, Strictly Come Dancing star Oti Mabuse and heavily pregnant presenter and DJ Ashley James led the way as the venue played host to the annual event for what appeared to be the first time in its history.

Lights! Jonathan never shies away from decking out his garden with lights and even made a huge light up spider one year

Extravagant: One year, Jonathan placed a sign reading ‘fairy tales’ but the letters were instead crossed out and rewritten to read ‘scary tales’ in one decoration

Incredible: Jonathan has also decorated his home with light up skeletons as his party proves to be one of the hottest events of the celeb calendar (pictured in 2019)

Spice Girl Mel C, Katherine Ryan, Wallis Day, Joel Dommett and his model wife Hannah Cooper and Charli Howard were also among the star-studded guest list at the bash last year.

In previous years, he has transformed his home into a gothic castle, covered it in creepy lights and strewn his garden with spider webs as he has hosted the stars.

WHAT IS FIBROMYALGIA?

Fibromyalgia is a chronic condition defined by widespread pain and fatigue.

It affects up to 2.7 per cent of people worldwide, with three women suffering for every one man, studies suggest.

Fibromyalgia is often triggered by a trauma, such as a car accident or childbirth, as well as infections. Why this occurs is unclear.

The discomfort tends to be felt as aches and burning from head-to-toe.

And the fatigue ranges from feeling sleepy to the exhaustion of having the flu.

Severe sufferers are often unable to work or socialise.

The pain can be worse at some times than others and may change location, such as becoming more severe in parts of the body that are used the most.

Other symptoms can include headaches; IBS; diarrhoea or constipation; poor concentration; dizziness; allergies and stimuli sensitivity, such as to light or heat.

Studies suggest the average patient waits five years to be diagnosed, which is thought to be due to X-rays and other medical tests not picking the condition up.

It is generally defined as pain that lasts for more than three months and affects 11 or more out of 18 tender points when pressed.

Treatment aims to relieve pain and aid sleep.
