Jill and Ashley Biden enjoyed a short, windy walk on their private beach on Saturday just hours before the first family departs Nantucket.
The mother and daughter duo have been spending a lot of quality time together during the Thanksgiving holiday, including a shopping spree in the historic downtown.
The duo only spent about 12 minutes outside on Saturday but it was long enough for Ashley to bend down and pick up some items from the beach, most likely the sea shells that are scattered around the island.
Both women wore long puffer coats to ward off the chilly and windy weather. Jill Biden appeared to be in workout clothes and sneakers. A few Secret Service agents walked with them as they made their way up the beach. Three Coast Guard gun boats were on guard in the harbor.
As they headed back to the $34 million luxurious house where they’re staying, a Secret Service agent gave the first lady a hand to help her navigate the stairs from the beach to the yard.
The 13,000 square foot house sits on Nantucket’s secluded inner harbor with gorgeous views of the water. It has a private beach and dock.
The 13-acre compound belongs to billionaire businessman turned philanthropist David Rubenstein, who recently purchased Baltimore Orioles.
Mother and daughter have been enjoying time together. On Wednesday they went shopping, spending over an hour visiting over a dozen local shops in the historic downtown area.
One stop included Ladybird Lingerie, known for its ‘beautiful yet comfortable’ undergarments.
The window showed an array of lace bras and panties to choose from.
The first lady wasn’t spotted carrying any bags, but her personal assistant was with her and could make arrangements to have anything she purchased delivered.
Jill Biden, wearing skintight brown leather leggings and black high-heeled ankle boots, even got a gift from Town Pool, a Nantucket-themed store. She received a t-shirt that read ‘Biden’ in the shape of the island.
The Bidens are scheduled to leave Nantucket on Saturday evening to return to the White House. They arrived on the island off the coast of Massachusetts on Tuesday. President Joe Biden is scheduled to leave for Africa on Sunday.
Hunter Biden, his wife Melissa Cohen and their son Beau joined the first couple at their holiday stay.
The entire family had lunch together on Friday at the Brotherhood of the Thieves, a traditional pub in downtown Nantucket.
After eating they did some black Friday shopping and watched the town Christmas Tree lighting.
President Biden caused some controversy when he purchased a book considered to be anti-Israel.
Biden was seen holding The Hundred Years’ War on Palestine: A History of Settler Colonial Conquest and Resistance, 1917-2017 by Columbia University professor emeritus Rashid Khalidi at a local bookshop.
The book harshly criticizes what it describes as the Zionist movement’s acts of ‘settler colonialism’ on behalf of Israel and has called what is happening in Palestine ‘the oppression of one people by another.’
One reviewer described it as ‘a highly partisan account from the Palestinian perspective.’
It is unclear whether the book was purchased by Biden himself or one of his many family members who accompanied him on the trip.
President Biden joined millions of Americans searching for a Black Friday deal on one of the busiest shopping days of the year.
His grandson Beau, 4, got into the act, leading his grandpa through the cobble stone streets of Nantucket by the hand.
The Biden family capped off their day of shopping at the town Christmas Tree lighting ceremony. Afterward Hunter helped his father step up onto a small platform to take a photo with the children’s choir, who entertained the crowd with traditional carols.
Biden scoured the stores, holding hands with his grandson Beau and petting a Dachshund, while pedestrians watched and shouted ‘we love you, Joe’. At one point, Biden even held the dog to pose for a photo with its owner. Hunter snapped the picture.
Hunter, who is facing sentencing next month on federal tax on and gun crimes, walked alongside his wife Melissa in jeans and a bomber jacket.
Biden responded to two questions from reporters waiting outside as he browsed holiday deals.
He said he was ‘working hard with the FBI’ after several of president-elect’s Trump Cabinet picks and Democrats were targeted with bomb threats and swatting.
Biden also said he expects to speak to Trump again during the transition.
Jill Biden was also shopping for books, and appeared to be getting sentimental by picking up a copy of her husband’s 2021 inaugural address.
Their daughter Ashley was spotted trying on a headband as she looked for her own bargain.
The Biden family celebrated Thanksgiving the same way they have done for the last 49 years, with a vacation on Nantucket.
In his 2017 memoir ‘Promise me Dad,’ Biden wrote that Thanksgiving in 1975 was the first holiday he and his now-wife Jill spent together, going to Nantucket with his young sons Beau and Hunter for a little bonding time.
They rarely have missed a holiday on Nantucket since.
One of the few Thanksgivings the Bidens missed there was in 2015, which took place about six months after Beau Biden died.
The family went to Rome instead. They also skipped going in 2020 because of the pandemic.
