Despite Donald Trump just taking office last month, Fox News host Jesse Watters looked ahead to the 2028 election – and revealed who he thinks could be the first female president.
Watters and Jeanine Pirro were discussing lack of leadership among the Democrats on Wednesday’s episode of The Five, when Watters turned his attention to the possible Republican race.
‘I think Megyn Kelly could be president,’ he said. ‘She is smart, she’s a great debater, she’s got a good family, she’s telegenic and she’s a woman.
‘And why not now? Why not have the first female president a Republican?’ Watters asked rhetorically after former Vice President Kamala Harris’ stunning defeat.
‘I think she’ll do a great job also,’ he said.
Kelly, 54, got her start at Fox News, hosting America Live and The Kelly File, but is now hosting a successful podcast after a friend said she would never return to mainstream media.
She famously endorsed President Donald Trump in the 2024 election, telling a crowd on Pittsburgh she decided to cast her ballot for the Republican despite their rollercoaster relationship over the years that included public spats during his first run for president.
During her speech, Kelly tore into the ‘left’s version of masculinity’ and said Democrats want to redefine gender roles – by allowing transgender women to compete in girls sports and use girls bathrooms.

He suggested former Fox News host Megyn Kelly, 54, should be the first female president of the United States
Kelly’s name was not the only one that Watters floated for a 2028 run, however.
He also suggested Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, another Fox News alum, could take the Oval Office.
‘I think, having said that, if he does a nice job at the Pentagon over the next four years, Hegseth could make a run. And I think he’d do an excellent job as commander-in-chief.’
But, Watters noted, Vice President JD Vance ‘probably has the advantage’ after he ‘did a great job’ at the Munich Security Conference when he argued that free speech and democratic institutions were being eroded.
On the Democrat side, Watters and Pirro said there is no clear leadership as they blasted newly-appointed DNC Chair Ken Martin.
‘It’s clear that the party needs new leadership,’ Pirro said. ‘But gone are the days of Barack Obama, and the best they can muster for DNC chair is a boring white guy named Ken.’
Watters then said the lack of clear leadership offers an opportunity to Democrats who want to take the Oval Office.
‘If you’re a Democrat, now is the time to run. It’s an open primary. You don’t have to run against Trump anymore,’ he said. ‘You’re dealing with Harris, who’s the front-runner. See what I mean?’

Watters also noted that the Democratic field for 2028 is wide open following former Vice President Kamala Harris’ stunning defeat

Another name Watters floated was Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, another Fox News alum
‘So if you’re a celebrity, if you’re wealthy, if you’re Harold Ford Jr, this is when you go for it, and I mean go for it,’ Watters said of a former Tennessee representative who has since appeared on The Five as a pundit.
‘I still think Newsom has the inside track to get the nomination, but he’ll still lose,’ Watters said.
