Vice President JD Vance revealed the most important role of President Donald Trump’s Department of Government Efficiency, and it wasn’t cost saving.

The vice president sat down with Fox News where he discussed the creation of so-called DOGE which will is being led by tech billionaire Elon Musk.

Trump announced DOGE after winning the November election before taking office. He said it would be created to cut down government waste.

‘The most important thing it’s going to do, I don’t even think it’s the cost savings,’ Vance told Sean Hannity in the interview.

‘It’s making the bureaucracy responsive to elected president,’ the vice president continued.

‘If you look at okay, the president issues an executive order saying we’re not going to give grants to organizations that do X, Y and Z and the bureaucracy just does not respond, DOGE has identified grants that were going to be made in violation of an executive order and stop them before the money is wired,’ Vance claimed.

He argued it ‘makes the people’s government responsive to the people’s president.’

The president tasked DOGE with cutting $2 trillion from the budget and gave it a July 4, 2026 deadline.

He signed the order creating DOGE on his first day in office on January 20.

According to the executive order, DOGE was established to implement the president’s agenda by ‘modernizing Federal technology and software to maximize governmental efficiency and productivity.’

In reality, it actually renamed and reorganized the U.S. Digital Service which was created under President Obama.

‘I think what DOGE is going to do it’s going to save money, and I really believe it’s already identified a lot of cost savings,’ Vance claimed in the interview.

The Trump administration has been taking dramatic steps when it comes to federal spending since the president took office, but just this weeks it has already faced setbacks in its broad effort.

In a memo released Monday, the new administration directed agencies to freeze loans, grants and financial assistance pending a review.

The move caused widespread confusion as lawmakers and officials and organizations in states raised questions over how it would impact people across the United States.

Democratic lawmakers accused Trump of an unprecedented power grab and trying to undermine Congress control of the government purse strings while even some Republican members voiced concerns in its impact.

The White House rescinded the memo less than 48 hours later after it was also temporarily blocked in court.

But GOP lawmakers and some Democrats have jumped onboard with the effort to cut government waste with the effort with the creation of the DOGE Caucus which will work with the administration with the goal of identifying waste, fraud and abuse going forward.
