Iran launched a fresh barrage of strikes on Israel on Sunday just hours after 14 of its nuclear scientists were killed in a series of car bomb attacks. 

The IDF confirmed that ‘several areas across the country’ had been hit by strikes orchestrated by Tehran as the conflict between the two continued into its third day. 

Israel’s ambulance service, Magen David Adom, said two people have been taken to hospital with shrapnel injuries following strikes in Haifa, in northern Israel, although it is continuing locate any ‘additional casualties’. 

The strikes came just hours after local media reported Tehran was hit by five car bombs. They were among a series of attacks that killed 14 of Iran’s nuclear scientists which Israeli officials denied taking part in. 

It also emerged on Sunday that in US Donald Trump vetoed an Israeli plan to kill Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, according to US officials. 

The officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the Israelis reported that they had an opportunity to kill the top Iranian leader, but Trump waved them off of the plan.

At least ten people have been killed in Iranian strikes overnight and into Sunday, according to Israel’s Magen David Adom rescue service, bringing the country’s total death toll to 13.

In Iran, Israeli strikes have killed at least 406 people and wounded another 654, according to Washington-based Human Rights Activists. Iran’s government has not offered overall casualty figures.
